Analyst places reworked New York Jets roster just below Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs and one other AFC team with 2024 NFL Draft still to go
The New York Jets are left with no alternative but to start fresh in the 2023 season. Similar to a golfer trying to improve their shot between swings, the Jets have their sights set on a successful 2024 season following a significant offseason.
According to their current progress, they have managed to earn the approval of at least one NFL analyst. During Monday’s episode of “Get Up,”Dan Orlovsky placed the Jets slightly below two other AFC team rosters.
“The Jets have the third-best roster on paper in the conference. I would put it behind Kansas City and I would put it behind Baltimore,”Orlovsky said.
Despite outlining a major disclaimer to the ranking, the analyst acknowledged the potential of the New York Jets to reach the AFC Championship game in 2024. He mentioned the “ifs”surrounding the health of key players Aaron Rodgers, Tyron Smith, and Mike Williams, but emphasized that if the team remains healthy, they have a strong chance of making it to the championship.
Top Concern for New York Jets in the 2024 NFL Draft
Although the first major opportunity to adjust one’s roster, free agency, has mostly passed, the other major opportunity is still available.
Some may argue that the main purpose of the NFL Draft is to acquire promising players for the future rather than drastically altering the current roster in 2024. However, there are bound to be some rookies who excel in 2024. The real question is whether the Jets will be able to secure any of these talented players.
First and foremost, the main question surrounding the team is whether they will opt to select a quarterback to back up Aaron Rodgers. Should they choose to do so, it will likely be seen as a sign that they are preparing for the eventual end of the Rodgers era.
It could be argued that the Jets have already lowered their expectations for Rodgers’ success by choosing a quarterback this season. By opting for a reliable backup instead of a potential immediate starter from their roster, the team runs the risk of potentially losing a playoff game in 2024.
At the 10th overall pick, the team will have the choice between selecting quarterback prospects J.J. McCarthy or another option, as well as tight end Brock Bowers. The decision they make will be crucial.
Most people generally concur that the New York Jets are aware that their selections at the beginning of the NFL Draft could potentially determine whether or not they win a Lombardi Trophy.
The 2024 NFL Draft has the potential to be a crucial event in franchise history, and the Jets are well aware of this fact. How they choose to use their draft picks this year will provide insight into the team’s direction for the present and future.
Is this the beginning of a new era for the Jets or will it be business as usual?
