AMD Zen 6 Expected to Retain Compatibility with Current AM5 Motherboards Featuring 32 MB BIOS

Recent insights from a well-known leaker indicate that the forthcoming AMD processors will maintain compatibility with both 32 MB and 64 MB BIOS motherboards, raising anticipation among enthusiasts and current users alike.

In a recent revelation, ASUS’s new B850M AYM OC motherboard, tailored for overclocking aficionados, has shed light on the AMD Zen 6 architecture. This motherboard is set to support the next-generation AMD CPUs, marking ASUS as the first vendor to officially affirm early compatibility with the AM5 socket. Notably, images surfaced showcasing Zen 6 alongside the mention of a “64 MB BIOS, ”which has ignited discussion regarding the compatibility of existing AM5 motherboards featuring a 32 MB BIOS.

According to previous reports, there is a strong possibility that current AM5 motherboards will indeed support Zen 6. This assertion aligns with the claims made by prominent leaker @9950Pro (HXL) on the social media platform X. While this information has not been officially confirmed, it is worth considering with cautious optimism. HXL commented that both the 32 MB and 64 MB BIOS motherboards are anticipated to support Zen 6, thus ensuring that both the 600 and 800 series of motherboards will be able to utilize the new CPU series.

When questioned about the potential drop in support for Zen 4 CPUs due to the introduction of the Zen 6 code in 32 MB BIOS chips, HXL responded firmly that this scenario is unlikely. He reassured the community that the 32 MB BIOS chip should adequately manage continued support for the existing AM5 processors. This is a significant improvement from the past, where the AM4 platform, which initially employed a 16 MB chip, faced difficulties accommodating older Zen processors, leading to the phase-out of earlier models such as Zen 1 and Zen + to accommodate newer architectures.
