Year after year, AMD continues to innovate within its AM4 platform, which has maintained a remarkable presence in the market for eight years. Most recently, the company has unveiled its most budget-friendly addition to the X3D lineup to date.
AMD Unveils Ryzen 5 5500X3D: A More Affordable Alternative to 5600X3D
The AM4 platform stands out for its longevity in the mainstream CPU market. It remains a key player largely thanks to the Ryzen 5000 series, which leverages the advanced Zen 3 architecture. Notably, the 5000 series introduced the first X3D models, enhancing performance benchmarks.
Recently, AMD added another model to its Ryzen 5000X3D family: the Ryzen 5 “5500X3D.”Although AMD did not announce it through a press release, information about the processor is available on the official AMD website, showcasing its specifications.

Structurally, the 5500X3D is akin to the 5600X3D but features slightly reduced clock speeds. It operates on a 6-core, 12-thread framework, boasting a base clock of 3 GHz and a boost clock reaching up to 4 GHz. In contrast, the 5600X3D operates at 3.3 GHz and 4.4 GHz for its base and boosted speeds, respectively. For reference, the non-X3D version, the Ryzen 5 5500, has a higher base clock at 3.6 GHz. The decreased clock speeds in X3D processors can be attributed to their unique die stacking technology.

Despite the slower clock speeds, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D features a substantial L3 cache of 96 MB, aligning it with other models in the 5000X3D series. This increase is particularly noteworthy when compared to the Ryzen 5 5500, which is limited to just 16 MB of L3 cache. Consequently, the 5500X3D is expected to offer a remarkable performance boost in specific applications like gaming, although this comes with increased power consumption—it is rated at 105W, compared to the 65W for the Ryzen 5500.
Overall, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D emerges as a compelling option for budget-conscious gamers. However, the processor is currently available only in Latin America, and pricing details have yet to be made public. Analysts predict that it may retail for around $150. With AMD continuing to release new AM4 processors at a steady pace, it appears that the company remains committed to this platform.
