AMD is broadening its RDNA 3 lineup by introducing new budget-friendly workstation graphics options, in addition to the RDNA 4-based PRO R9700.

In a noteworthy move, AMD has quietly launched the Radeon PRO W7400, its latest entry-level workstation GPU designed primarily for cost-effective setups rather than gaming. This new addition is the slowest in the RDNA 3 series but shares several features with its counterpart, the PRO W7500, including the same shader count and memory capacity.

However, the PRO W7400 exhibits a less powerful memory configuration, offering only 172.8 GB/s memory bandwidth due to its 10.8 Gbps memory speed. In contrast, the PRO W7500 utilizes faster 16 Gbps GDDR6 memory, resulting in enhanced memory performance. Much of the architecture remains consistent, featuring 28 Compute Units, 28 Ray Accelerators, and 56 AI Accelerators.

Despite some compromises, the PRO W7400 achieves a performance of 7.9 TFLOPS for FP32 operations and an impressive 15.8 TFLOPS for peak single and half precision calculations. Notably, this GPU boasts a remarkable power efficiency, with a thermal design power (TDP) of just 55 watts—15 watts less than the PRO W7500—thereby making it easier to power through a standard PCIe x16 slot without the need for an external power source. The card is equipped with a PCIe 4.0 interface that includes eight lanes, a feature consistent with the W7500 and W7600 models.

The PRO W7400 is engineered as a single-slot solution, enhancing compatibility with compact server chassis and contributing to a smaller overall footprint. Measuring only 6.6 inches in length, it is 1.9 inches shorter than the PRO W7500. This GPU supports a range of modern video formats, including AV1 encoding and decoding, which makes it particularly suited for energy-efficient workstation configurations.

As of now, AMD has not disclosed details regarding the pricing or availability of the PRO W7400, and reference design images are not yet posted on their website. However, prospective buyers can anticipate a price point similar to that of the PRO W7500, albeit in a more compact version.
