AMD Unveils ML-Enhanced FSR Redstone for Enhanced Visuals and Performance on RX 9000 GPUs; Early Support Integrated in FSR 3.1.4, Full Release Coming Later This Year

AMD has introduced FSR Redstone, an innovative suite that leverages four distinct FidelityFX neural rendering technologies designed to enhance gaming visuals through advanced machine learning models.

AMD Unveils FSR Redstone and FSR 3.1.4 to Elevate Gaming Experience on RX 9000 GPUs

The latest iteration of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) has recently been updated to version 3.1.4, now available for download as part of the FidelityFX SDK 1.1.4. In conjunction with this update, AMD has rolled out the FSR Redstone suite, a collection of features driven by machine learning technology aimed at enhancing both image quality and overall gaming performance.

With the launch of FSR 3.1.4, developers are poised to harness the power of FSR Redstone later this year, enabling them to implement cutting-edge visual improvements in games optimized for the Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs. FSR Redstone encompasses four groundbreaking features tailored specifically for these GPUs, promising to advance ray tracing capabilities, visual fidelity, and performance metrics:

  1. Neural Radiance Caching: Utilizes machine learning to analyze light behavior, enabling predictive scene rendering for efficient real-time global illumination.
  2. ML Ray Regeneration: Trained on low-sampling noisy renders, this feature predicts and filters out graininess, resulting in sharper visuals with reduced rendering costs.
  3. ML Super Resolution: Capable of reconstructing low-resolution visuals in real-time, this technology provides enhanced upscaled images.
  4. ML Frame Generation: Simulates additional frames between the actual rendered frames, effectively boosting performance.

The FSR 3.1.4 update also includes numerous bug fixes and introduces a digitally signed, upgradable DLL, allowing developers to easily update FSR without comprehensive game patches. This functionality means that games implementing FSR 3.1.4 can seamlessly transition to FSR 4 by merely replacing the DLL, streamlining developer integration.

While FSR Redstone is not currently available, it is expected to be released later this year, giving developers access to the latest machine learning tools. In the interim, AMD has actively provided plugins for Unreal Engine 5.6, including the latest FSR 3.1.4 updates and Anti-Lag 2 functionality aimed at minimizing end-to-end system latency.
