AMD Unveils Entry-Level Zen 5 Ryzen AI 5 330 APU with Quad-Core Design

The recent introduction of the APU within the Krackan Point 2 family marks a significant advancement targeting ultra-energy-efficient systems. This new model, built on the Zen 5 architecture, represents the lowest core count observed in any Zen 5 chipset to date.

Introducing the Ryzen AI 5 330 Krackan Point 2 APU

AMD is broadening its Zen 5 mobile processor lineup with the launch of new chips across various families. Following the debut of the Krackan Point series, which includes the Ryzen AI 7 350 and Ryzen AI 5 340, AMD has unveiled the Krackan Point 2 series. Targeting the entry-level mobile segment, the Krackan Point 2 differentiates itself from its predecessor by offering solutions for budget-conscious consumers.

Ryzen AI 5 330 specs

Among the latest additions is the quietly launched Ryzen AI 5 330, utilizing the FP8 socket and suitable for laptops, mobile devices, and custom mini-PC configurations. This APU features a 4-core and 8-thread setup, leveraging a unique combination of 1x Zen 5 core and 3x Zen 5c cores, thereby enhancing power efficiency significantly.

Operating at a base frequency of 2 GHz for both Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores, the Ryzen AI 5 330 is capable of boosting up to 4.5 GHz on its Zen 5 core, while the Zen 5c cores max out at 3.4 GHz. With a total cache of 12 MB (L2 + L3) and a TDP range that varies between 15-28W, this new model stands out for its remarkably low power consumption compared to other Krackan Point models, which can reach up to 54W, particularly given their higher core counts and performance ratings.

AMD Radeon 820M specs

On the graphics front, the Ryzen AI 5 330 is equipped with the AMD Radeon 820M integrated GPU, which, while modest with only two GPU cores clocking at 2.8 GHz, is more than adequate for everyday computing tasks, although it may struggle with gaming. Thanks to the RDNA 3.5 architecture integration, it offers a notable performance improvement over the integrated graphics found in Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs.

Moreover, this processor is outfitted with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), capable of delivering up to 50 AI TOPs of performance, making it eligible for the Copilot+ certification. However, its combined CPU and iGPU do not contribute additional TOPs. Recent benchmarking sources, including a Geekbench assessment, reveal that this processor is particularly well-suited for low-intensity tasks.
