Recent developments indicate increasing evidence surrounding the upcoming RDNA 3.5-based APUs from AMD, suggesting a potential release of 12-core Zen 5 APUs designed for the AM5 platform.
New AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.0 Firmware Suggests AMD’s Release of Strix Point APUs for AM5
In a recent post, we mentioned the preparation of AGESA BIOS 1.2.7.0 to support AMD’s Krackan Point APUs on the AM5 platform. However, industry insiders are suggesting that AMD may introduce a more robust Strix Point APU family for desktop systems. The Krackan Point APUs, primarily targeted at budget-conscious users, do not compete against the better-performing Strix Point models, which are expected to deliver enhanced gaming capabilities.

Even the flagship Radeon 890M from the Strix Point lineup has shown limitations in achieving optimal performance in current gaming titles. Without substantial advancements over the previous Phoenix Point series, known as Ryzen 8000G, enthusiasts may not experience meaningful upgrades. Fortunately, credible leakers, including @9550pro, suggest that Strix Point could indeed make its way to the AM5 platform soon.

Evidence from a leaker’s post on X shows the presence of “STRIX”in a Hex Editor screenshot, which outlines details of the AMD’s BIOS/UEFI binary. Confirmation from another user, @xgfancz, showcasing screenshots of the AGESA 1.2.0.3g/1.2.7.0 firmware framework with UEFITool, strengthens this claim. The mention of both Raphael (RPL) and Phoenix (PHX), alongside “STX”, suggests a likely introduction of AMD’s Strix Point on AM5 shortly.
This isn’t the first time these developments have surfaced; earlier in March, we reported potential timelines suggesting the launch of Ryzen 9000G or Zen 5 APUs by Q4 2025. Now that we are in the fourth quarter, expectations are high for multiple variants of Zen 5 APUs, ranging from a 6-core/12-thread configuration to a potent 12-core/24-thread option.
