AMD Silently Lists Two New Ryzen 5 7235H & 7235HS “Zen 3+” APUs For Notebook & Desktop PCs

AMD has recently added two new APUs, the Ryzen 5 7235H and 7235HS, to its website. These APUs are built on the Zen 3+ core architecture, code named Rembrandt.

AMD Expands Entry-Level Offerings with Quad-Core Zen 3+ APUs: Introducing the Ryzen 5 7235H & 7235HS for Notebooks and Desktops

The release of the two new APUs has not yet been announced by Team Red, but the WeUs have appeared on AMD’s website, indicating that they will be making their debut in the near future.

Before discussing the specifications, it is worth mentioning the firm’s choice of platform, which is the more interesting topic here. This is because the Zen3+ architecture used to be limited to the mobile series under the Ryzen 6000 and Ryzen 7035 series, but the new models are now compatible with both desktops and mobile platforms. This is due to the fact that the Ryzen APUs will be featured in mid-range Mini PCs, positioning them as a desktop platform.

In terms of specifications, the AMD Ryzen 5 7235H APU is equipped with a 4-core and 8-thread configuration, boasting a maximum boost clock speed of 4.2 GHz and a base clock speed of 3.2 GHz. As for power consumption, the Ryzen 5 7235H has a base TDP of 45W.

The primary distinction between the “H”and “HS”models is their intended usage, with the H model designed for high-end laptops and the HS model intended for lower-power devices. While the Ryzen 5 7235H variant is capable of overclocking as it is factory unlocked, the HS counterpart does not have this capability. Other than that, there are minimal differences on paper between the two APUs.

The recent release of Zen 3+ APUs for the desktop segment by AMD has left many wondering about the reasons behind this sudden move. While there is no definite answer yet, it is possible that the chipmaker wanted to fill a gap in its mid-tier Ryzen APUs between its existing market offerings. Additionally, it is likely that AMD saw potential in its Zen 3+ platform and decided to capitalize on it. On a similar note, Intel has also introduced its Core Ultra 5 115U, a comparable option to AMD’s latest release. Despite the lack of official information from AMD about the release date and pricing, we can expect more updates in the near future.
