AMD Ryzen Z2 Product Code Confirms Official “Aerith Plus” SoC Codename

AMD has subtly confirmed that the Ryzen Z2 A is the coveted Aerith Plus, as indicated on its product page.

The Ryzen Z2 A: Tying Back to the Aerith Plus

Approximately three months ago, we uncovered significant details about AMD’s Aerith Plus through leaked NBD shipping manifests. The Aerith Plus serves as the successor to the original AMD Aerith, which currently powers devices such as the Steam Deck. Recent findings link this new processor unequivocally to AMD’s newly launched Ryzen Z2 A.

This discovery came to light thanks to @RubyRapids, who located the information on AMD’s official website. The product code 100-000001835 for the Ryzen Z2 A confirms its identity as the Aerith Plus, matching codes found in the NBD shipping documents.

The Ryzen Z2 A stands as a natural successor to the custom Ryzen APU utilized in the Steam Deck. Built on the Zen 2 architecture, similar to its predecessor, the Ryzen Z2 A also employs RDNA 2 architecture for its integrated graphics. Newer handheld consoles such as the Xbox Rog Ally have already begun integrating this processor, which is designed to operate within a TDP range of 6-20W.

In addition to the TDP leak, the shipping manifest revealed a boost clock speed of 3.8 GHz. The Ryzen Z2 A, aka Aerith Plus, boasts 4 cores and 8 threads and is part of the latest Ryzen Z2 series, which includes four additional models featuring newer architectures like Zen 3+, Zen 4, and Zen 5. As the most basic offering, the Ryzen Z2 A is expected to be utilized in entry-level handheld devices, potentially setting the stage for the anticipated Steam Deck 2.

Furthermore, AMD has also introduced its most robust custom chip within the Ryzen Z2 range, known as the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. This powerhouse is expected to drive high-end handheld devices and will incorporate a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for advanced AI functionalities. With multiple APUs now available in the Z2 lineup, gaming enthusiasts can anticipate a diverse array of budget, mid-range, and premium handhelds emerging in the coming months.
