Mercury Research has released AMD’s Q2 2025 CPU market share report, revealing substantial growth in the desktop sector, particularly within the Ryzen lineup.
Significant Growth in AMD’s Desktop Share Driven by Ryzen X3D and AM5 Sales
As detailed in the recent report from Mercury Research, AMD has achieved notable successes in the desktop CPU market. Following a productive previous quarter focused on server units, this report highlights remarkable advancements for AMD in the desktop segment, suggesting a strong trajectory for the company.

Examining AMD’s performance in the server market, the company reported an increase in unit share to 27.3% and a revenue share of 41.0%.This represents a slight progression of 0.1 and 1.5 points from the previous quarter, along with a significant annual gain of 3.2 and 7.2 points, respectively. The 41% revenue share is a record high for AMD, particularly since the debut of their EPYC CPUs.
The remarkable revenue growth can be attributed to robust demand across cloud and enterprise segments. With upcoming products like Turin, Venice, and Verano, AMD is well-positioned for further growth in the server landscape.
- Server revenue share climbed 7.2% year-over-year, reaching a record 41%.
- Client revenue share grew by 9.8% year-over-year and 1.3% quarter-over-quarter to 27.8%.
- Desktop revenue share surged by 20.5% year-over-year and 4.9% quarter-over-quarter to 39.3%.
- Mobile revenue share improved by 3.9% year-over-year and 0.7% quarter-over-quarter to 21.5%.
- Overall revenue share increased by 8.8% year-over-year and 1.3% quarter-over-quarter, totaling 33.0%.
In the desktop market, AMD achieved an impressive 32.2% unit share, up from 28% in the previous quarter and significantly higher than last year’s 23%.This nearly 10% annual growth underscores the success of AMD’s AM5 and AM4 CPUs. Furthermore, the desktop revenue climbed significantly to 39.3%, nearing the server revenue accomplishments.
AMD’s AM5 and X3D processors have consistently outperformed Intel’s offerings in online comparisons, particularly with the latest Zen 5 models (Ryzen 9000/9000X3D).Reports indicate that AMD is set to expand its X3D lineup with additional products that could influence both mainstream and enthusiast markets.

The mobile segment, however, experienced some contraction, with unit share dropping to 20.6% and revenue share to 21.5%.Despite these quarterly declines, the mobile division shows improvement compared to last year, boasting a 2.8% unit growth and a 9.8% revenue growth. The demand for Ryzen AI 300 remains high, which has led to limited availability of both standard and Ryzen AI MAX chips.
In summary, AMD’s latest quarter marks a significant disruption in the x86 CPU market, characterized by strong sales of both Ryzen and EPYC processors across desktop and server platforms. Given the momentum generated since the launch of the Zen architecture, it appears that AMD’s market position will remain robust through 2030.
