New results for AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D have recently appeared on Geekbench, showcasing significant enhancements in both single-core and multi-core performance metrics.
AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D: Poised to Transform the High-End CPU Market
AMD is set to enrich its Zen 5 architecture lineup with the introduction of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors. First unveiled at CES 2025, these CPUs aim to deliver outstanding performance tailored for high-end computing needs. While AMD previously hinted at the capabilities of these models, the recent appearance of both processors on Geekbench clearly presents their competitive edge.

The evaluations were conducted using Gigabyte’s X670 AORUS ELITE AX motherboard, equipped with 32 GB DDR5 RAM. To better understand their performance, let’s explore how the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D compare to other models in the AMD “3D V-Cache”family.
Single-Core Performance Comparison
Multi-Core Performance Comparison
The data indicates that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D models demonstrate a notable 15% improvement in single-core performance compared to their predecessors. In contrast, the multi-core performance shows a moderate enhancement of approximately 7%.While the 9950X3D presently appears to be trailing in multi-core scenarios, it is vital to recognize that these are preliminary results; final figures may vary with the official market release.

On the specs front, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D is outfitted with 16 cores and 32 threads, utilizing a dual-CCD architecture along with a single I/O die. This configuration provides a robust 144 MB of total cache, split evenly between the Zen 5 CCDs and the X3D stack. Conversely, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D is designed with 12 cores and 24 threads, offering a total of 140 MB cache. Although AMD anticipates minimal differences in gaming performance between the newer Ryzen 9 models and the previous Ryzen 7 9800X3D, these CPUs aim to meet diverse user demands.
AMD is rumored to introduce the Ryzen 9 “X3D”series at the same time as the RDNA 4 GPU release, setting the stage for a compelling package for consumers. An official announcement is expected by late February or early March 2025.
