Recent updates indicate that AMD’s forthcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D CPUs will maintain their clock speeds, matching those of the Ryzen 9950X, while delivering comparable performance metrics in synthetic benchmarks.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D & 9900X3D: Consistency in Performance
The new generation of AMD’s CPUs equipped with 3D V-Cache technology, known as “X3D,”shows promise in delivering enhanced performance capabilities. Following the remarkable synthetic and gaming benchmarks of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, there’s anticipation that the newer, higher-tier models will surpass these achievements, offering improved gaming performance and system responsiveness.
The upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X will soon be available in an X3D variant, alongside the Ryzen 9 9900X. A critical aspect of the 3D V-Cache design is its unique construction, which positions the SRAM die beneath the chip’s core die (CCD). This configuration significantly aids cooling efficiency, enabling higher base clock speeds, as successfully demonstrated by the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
Despite the enhancements observed, the Ryzen 9800X3D’s boost clock still trails that of the Ryzen 9700X by 300 MHz, although the latter is not a direct non-X3D counterpart.
According to leaker HXL (@9550pro), the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will retain the same core clock frequencies as its predecessor, operating between 4.3 GHz and 5.7 GHz. This performance consistency is expected to yield impressive results across both application load and gaming scenarios.
In terms of productivity, reports suggest that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will provide similar performance to the non-X3D variant in software like Cinebench R23, while significantly boosting gaming performance. This marks a departure from earlier X3D models, which often exhibited reduced productivity metrics due to lower clock speeds and limited overclocking options.
Further focusing on technical specifications, the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D will include a total of 128 MB of L3 cache, which comprises 64 MB from the 3D V-Cache atop the existing configuration (32 MB per CCD). As a 16-core/32-thread processor, it mirrors the designated features of the Ryzen 9 9950X.
The Ryzen 9 9900X3D, featuring 12 cores and 24 threads, is also slated for release alongside the 9950X3D at the upcoming CES 2025 event. In addition to these CPU launches, attendees can expect to see advancements such as FSR 4 technology and the Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics cards unveiled at the same venue.
