The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D has rapidly become the standout Zen 5 CPU in Germany, demonstrating remarkable popularity among consumers and solid sales performance in the retail space.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D: Leading the Zen 5 Desktop CPU Market at Mindfactory
Since its launch about two months ago, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has captivated gamers and PC builders alike, solidifying its position as the fastest gaming processor available. This latest addition to AMD’s Zen 5 architecture succeeds the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which was based on Zen 4 technology. Remarkably, despite its premium price tag of $479, the 9800X3D has experienced impeccable demand globally, particularly in retail outlets.
While precise worldwide sales figures remain unavailable, Mindfactory, one of Germany’s largest retailers, has reported that approximately 8,650 units of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D have been sold. This figure suggests that total sales across all German retailers—both online and offline—are likely considerably higher.
To appreciate the impact of these sales, it’s important to consider the competition. The sales figures for the Ryzen 9000 series CPUs, which include the non-X3D models, fall short of the 9800X3D. Notably, the Ryzen 9700X secured 2,560 units sold, while the Ryzen 5 9600X achieved 920. Additionally, the Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X sales stood at 820 and 790 units, respectively.
When combined, these models account for a mere 5,090 units, leaving them 3,560 units behind the 9800X3D. What makes this even more impressive is that the Ryzen 9000 non-X3D processors launched several months prior to the 9800X3D’s debut. Given this context, the 9800X3D sales are particularly commendable, with early indicators suggesting potential competition with the prior champion, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which garnered 78,450 units sold from Mindfactory alone.
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which will celebrate its two-year anniversary in April, has maintained significant market appeal. In fact, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D ranks among the top five best-selling CPUs across major retailers globally, including platforms such as Amazon and Newegg. On a peak sales day, specifically December 24th, AMD reportedly sold about 5,000 units of the 9800X3D, highlighting its competitive edge.
The immense popularity of the 9800X3D has occasionally led to stock shortages and increased retail prices over the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). In contrast, the Ryzen 9000 series is currently available at lower prices but lacks the same level of customer interest.
Looking ahead, AMD is set to unveil additional Ryzen 9000X3D processors at CES, including the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Alongside these announcements, AMD will also introduce new hardware such as RDNA 4 GPUs and budget-friendly 800-series chipset motherboards.
