An exclusive look at the Radeon RX 9070 XT Reference design has emerged, shared by users on a prominent Chinese forum. This revelation offers insight into the design elements of AMD’s latest graphics card.
The Existence of the RX 9070 XT Reference Design Confirmed; Launch at MSRP
Before AMD officially unveiled the first cards of the RDNA 4 lineup, the RX 9070 series, during CES, an AMD-generated image had already teased the reference design for the Radeon RX 9070 XT. Initial speculation suggested that AMD might not produce any reference cards, with only AIB (Add-In Board) editions expected on store shelves.
However, contrary to these early reports, a reference card has appeared online. This discovery was initially shared on the Chiphell forum, as noted by @harukaze5719. The card was reportedly listed for sale by a user in China, with images revealing the reference design we had previously anticipated. While some sources have referred to it as an OEM card, the design remains largely consistent with the original render. The visuals showcase a three-fan cooling system surrounded by a black shroud, echoing the design elements from earlier leaks.

Notably, there are minor variations from the original render, particularly around the shroud design of the middle fan. The rendered image indicated a ventilated shroud that showcased the fins beneath it, whereas the leaked image features a solid shroud that conceals these fins. Another discernible difference is the positioning of the Radeon logo: in the render, it is located near the I/O section, while in the leak, it’s positioned next to the middle fan.

The overall design bears a resemblance to the reference Radeon RX 7900 XTX. For those questioning its authenticity, user @unikoshardware provided additional images that include the packaging, confirming it as the Radeon RX 9070 XT. This card is equipped with Gen 5.0 gold fingers, a feature absent in the RX 7000 series.

This specific card was listed at a price of US$599, aligning with the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) set at the launch of the RX 9070 XT. While some AIB variant cards also debuted with the same MSRP, many overclocked and premium versions command higher prices. The rationale behind AMD’s limited production of reference designs remains speculative, with suggestions pointing to cost-reduction strategies. To date, the total number of these reference units in circulation remains unclear.
