In a surprising turn of events, AMD has issued a new statement announcing that support for game features and optimizations for their RX 5000 and RX 6000 GPUs will remain active. This decision comes in response to an outcry from users who recently purchased these GPUs and felt abandoned by AMD’s initial intentions.
AMD Reverses Course on GPU Support and Clarifies USB-C Functionality
The company’s earlier announcement to exclude the RX 5000 and RX 6000 series from future game optimization and feature support led to a wave of dissatisfaction from the gaming community. Owners of these GPUs, particularly those who invested in them in the past couple of years, voiced their concerns about being left behind. Initially, AMD indicated that it would limit its support to only critical bug fixes and security updates for these products.
However, AMD recently communicated with Tom’s Hardware, clarifying that they are not withdrawing game optimizations and feature support for these graphics cards. This change contradicts their previous declaration. In their release notes for the Adrenalin Driver version 25.10.2, the RX 5000 and RX 6000 series were explicitly noted as receiving only critical updates.
New features, bug fixes, and game optimizations will continue to be delivered as required by market needs in the maintenance mode branch,

In light of the significant backlash across social media platforms, AMD’s reversal was swift, occurring within just a day. Many within the community consider this a positive outcome, especially since some GPUs from the RDNA 2 lineup were launched as recently as 2023. Such devices, alongside those released between 2019 and 2022, deserve continued support rather than an abrupt withdrawal.
AMD has also tackled reports regarding the RX 7900 XTX’s USB-C Power Delivery functionality. In a statement to Techpowerup, the company dismissed claims that the USB-C port functionality would be disabled. They clarified that the release notes for the Adrenalin Edition 25.10.2 included inaccuracies, which have since been corrected.
We’d like to inform you that the release notes for AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 25.10.2 posted today included misinformation that has since been corrected. There is no change to USB-C functionality on the RX 7900 series GPUs in the 25.10.2 driver. There was an incorrect line in the originally posted release notes that has been removed, and the release notes have been updated. We apologize for any inconvenience.

It raises questions as to why such assertions were made without proper verification, suggesting a lack of careful consideration. Going forward, it is hoped that AMD will adhere to its commitment to delivering new features and game optimizations for RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 GPUs for the foreseeable future.
