AMD RDNA 4 “Radeon RX 8000” GPU Rumors: Navi 48 Around Navi 31 Performance, Navi 44 Between Navi 33 & 32
@All_The_Watts has recently shared new information about the potential performance positioning of AMD’s upcoming RDNA 4 “Radeon RX 8000″GPUs, sparking further rumors.
AMD RDNA 4 “Radeon RX 8000″GPUs: The Next Generation of Affordable Performance
The source of this rumor is @All_The_Watts, who shared a mysterious post on social platform X. The post hints at the development of two upcoming AMD GPUs, based on the RDNA 4 architecture, that will potentially be used in the Radeon RX 8000 graphics card family. While information about Navi 4 is scarce, two WeUs have been identified under the “GFX12″family, indicating that these GPUs are currently in the early stages of testing.

The rumor is simple and easy to understand.
- RDNA 3 (Navi 31 Top) > RDNA 4 Navi 48 (Top) > RDNA 3 Navi 31 (Cut)
- RDNA 3 (Navi 32 Top) > RDNA 4 Navi 44 (Top) > RDNA 3 Navi 33 (Top)
First on the list is the AMD Navi 48 GPU, which is rumored to be the flagship RDNA 4 GPU die. While it may not be as powerful as the Navi 31 die found in the Radeon RX 7900 XTX (Navi 31 XTX), it is expected to outperform the cut-down Navi 31 GPU die used in the Radeon RX 7900 GRE. This places the anticipated performance of the next-generation Navi 48 GPU to be comparable to that of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
The mid-tier Navi 44 GPU is the second chip, and it is the slower of the two RDNA 4 chips. It boasts a faster speed than AMD’s Navi 33 GPU (Hotpink Bonefish) found on the Radeon RX 7600 series, but it falls short compared to the Navi 32 (Wheatnas) GPUs featured on the Radeon RX 7800 and RX 7700 series. Based on this information, we can anticipate its performance to be similar to that of the RX 7700 XT and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards.
Although the performance may not be meeting expectations, it is important to keep in mind that AMD’s approach to their RDNA 4 GPU architecture differs greatly from RDNA 2 and RDNA 3. Unlike the previous architectures, RDNA 4 does not have WeUs that cater to both the top and entry-level segments. In fact, the top GPU die was discontinued in favor of mid-tier chips.
The upcoming deal will be reminiscent of the one we witnessed with the RDNA 1 GPU architecture, which included the Navi 10, Navi 11, and Navi 12 GPUs. In this instance, the company took a step back to reassess its performance and value offerings in the mainstream market before competing with NVIDIA in the high-end market. The resulting RDNA 2 generation proved to be one of AMD’s most competitive GPU families in recent times, excelling in all areas and even holding its own in the enthusiast segment.
Despite the lack of extensive information on the RDNA 4 GPUs, it is highly likely that the upcoming generation will include compatibility with GDDR7 memory, which will likely be introduced with 28/32 Gbps dies and 16Gb (2 GB VRAM per module) initially.
Aside from the RDNA 4 GPUs, the rumor also mentions the performance of the RDNA 3+ iGPU that will be featured on the upcoming Strix Point Halo APUs. According to the rumor, the RDNA 3+ iGPUs will surpass the performance of the current Navi 33 low-end GPUs, making them a highly capable option for the gaming market. The Strix Halo is expected to be a premium product with a significantly higher TDP, which raises the question of whether it will be suitable for handheld devices or if it will have a greater impact in Mini PCs and desktop consoles, in addition to the notebook market.
