Recent testing indicates that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT rivals the performance of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, while maintaining notably better thermal management.
Benchmark Results: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Performance and Thermals
The latest benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT in the FurMark stress test highlight its impressive capabilities. This marks the second benchmark iteration of the RX 9070 XT in FurMark, with the GPU clearly identified in the results shared by forum user gaav87 from AnandTech.
For this round of testing, the GPU was subjected to an OpenGL stress test at a 1080p resolution with MSAA turned off. The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16G—a factory-overclocked model—delivered an impressive score of 20, 732 points (345 FPS) after 10 minutes.

It’s important to note that the test utilized drivers from the recently released Linux Mesa 25.0, which incorporates official RDNA 4 support, adding to the reliability of these results. For comparison, a similar setup with the GeForce RTX 4080 netted a score of 20, 702 points (344 FPS) using Windows drivers. While the testing environments differ, the performance equivalence between these two GPUs is noteworthy.

Earlier benchmarks have indicated that the RX 9070 XT holds its own against the RTX 4080 robustly. A previous score indicated that the RX 9070 XT achieved 7979 points at 4K resolution, positioning it closely to the RTX 4080’s score of 8030 points. However, the standout feature of the RX 9070 XT is its thermal performance.
The benchmark results indicate that the RX 9070 XT maintained a temperature below 55°C, even under 100% load throughout the stressful 10-minute FurMark assessment. Given that FurMark is known for pushing GPUs to their limits, often resulting in temperatures exceeding 80°C, the RX 9070 XT’s thermal capabilities are impressive and could set a new standard for the RDNA 4 architecture. Comparatively, while the RX 50 series demonstrated solid thermal performance, the advancements seen in the RX 9070 XT exceed our previous expectations.

In a subsequent test, the same user shared results from the Superposition benchmark at 1080p Extreme settings, where the RX 9070 XT achieved a score of 14, 534 points. However, it’s difficult to accurately rank this against the GeForce RTX 4080 or other competitors, as comparable Linux driver scores are scarce. The user did provide a comparison with the RX 6900 XT, which scored 9408 points—yet, without analogous driver settings, this comparison proves less informative for understanding the RX 9070 XT’s standing.
