AMD is reportedly gearing up to launch two cutting-edge Ryzen 9000 processors featuring the “Zen 5” architecture, equipped with 3D V-Cache technology. These new CPUs will come in configurations of 8-core and 16-core variants, boasting impressive cache sizes of up to 192 MB.

Recent insights shared by chi11eddog suggest that AMD is poised to expand its Ryzen 9000 offerings with more 3D V-Cache models based on the latest Zen 5 architecture. Currently, the lineup includes the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with 8 cores and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D featuring 16 cores; however, reports indicate further developments are underway.

The potential 16-core variant is expected to fall within the Ryzen 9 category, featuring 32 threads and a thermal design power (TDP) of 200W. This chip will provide a staggering 192 MB of cache, which, if verified, would be the highest cache amount found in a mainstream desktop CPU.

In comparison, the existing Ryzen 9 9950X3D operates at a 170W TDP, offering similar core and thread counts, but with a 5.7 GHz boost clock. It contains 128 MB of L3 cache, comprising 64 MB from a single X3D-boosted chip die and an extra 32 MB from a second chip die. The anticipated new model will enhance the cache configuration with an additional 64 MB on the second die, potentially elevating performance benchmarks significantly.

This would mark a significant milestone for AMD, as it would be the first introduction of dual 3D V-Cache implementation in their Ryzen range. Previous prototypes had surfaced, yet none made it to retail distribution.

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU

The second CPU in the pipeline is an 8-core variant, featuring 16 threads and a TDP of 120W, coupled with 96 MB of L3 cache. Its specifications closely mirror those of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, suggesting it could serve as a more economical choice priced below $450 or as a high-performance model positioned at around $499. This expanding array of 3D V-Cache offerings will present consumers with enhanced flexibility and performance options.

On another note, Intel is reportedly exploring similar 3D V-Cache-like technologies with its forthcoming Nova Lake series, which will feature bLLC (Big LLC) architecture. While these developments may take time to materialize, it appears AMD will maintain its competitive edge in the gaming sector, providing enthusiasts with an exceptional dual X3D CPU that elevates their computing experience to new heights.
