AMD FX-9590 CPU Pushes Limits to Achieve Playable Framerates in Battlefield 6

AMD FX-9590 Proves Its Worth in Battlefield 6

Despite not supporting TPM 2.0, the aging AMD FX-9590 CPU has demonstrated surprising capabilities by successfully running Battlefield 6 at playable frame rates.

Testing the Limits with Legacy Hardware

In a recent YouTube video by Fully Buffered, the performance of two older CPUs—the Intel Core i7-2600K and the AMD FX-9590—was evaluated while attempting to run Battlefield 6. The Intel CPU failed to launch the game, hindered by its lack of Secure Boot support. In contrast, the AMD FX-9590 successfully launched and ran the game, despite its absence of TPM 2.0 support, underscoring that Secure Boot is crucial for compatibility.

Impressive Performance Metrics

Released over a decade ago, the AMD FX-9590, when paired with an RX 5700 8 GB GPU, showcased a commendable performance in Battlefield 6. In the Conquest mode featuring up to 64 players, the game maintained a frame rate in the mid-30s, occasionally reaching the 40s at a resolution of 1080p, which is quite remarkable for hardware of its age. Additionally, with adjustments to settings and resolutions, players could witness frame rates peaking in the mid-40s range. Notably, the CPU experienced peak usage, reaching an impressive 98% utilization at a clock speed of 4.65 GHz.

Optimization for All Players

The performance of the AMD FX-9590 in running Battlefield 6 underscores the developers’ commitment to optimizing the game for a wide range of system specifications. Before the game’s release, technical director Christian Buhl noted that a significant number of participants in the Battlefield 6 open beta were on or below the minimum specifications. This insight drove the team’s efforts to enhance performance for lower-end systems, ensuring a broad player base could enjoy the game. Additionally, addressing the technical constraints of the Xbox Series S contributed to improvements in overall gameplay experience.
