In recent discussions within our forum community, several members flagged an ongoing issue related to TPM (Trusted Platform Module) attestation in AMD platforms.
According to Microsoft’s official notes, the problem manifests as error code 0x80070490
on Windows systems for AMD platforms utilizing ASP firmware TPM. The company indicated that subsequent versions of AMD firmware have addressed this issue. Users are advised to consult with their device manufacturers and review the firmware release notes to identify updates that include the necessary fixes.

Despite Microsoft’s assurances regarding future firmware solving the issue, we discovered that the problem still persists, leading us to initially place the blame squarely on AMD.
However, further scrutiny has revealed that the issue predominantly impacts Ryzen 1000 (Zen1) through Ryzen 5000 (Zen 3) processors, particularly on AM4 motherboards. AMD has indicated that “motherboards with AMD fTPM 3.*.0″are affected. For those uncertain about their system’s status, AMD provides a straightforward solution:
Run ”
Powershell.exe -Command Get-TPM
” to determine if the system is impacted by this issue.
AMD has provided clarity regarding the situation, emphasizing the potential for systems to enter BitLocker recovery mode due to TPM issues:
AMD resolved this issue in TPM firmware updates delivered to motherboard manufacturers in 2022.
- Some manufacturers have opted not to redistribute these TPM firmware updates.
- BitLocker™ users can suspend BitLocker™ during these TPM firmware updates. If not suspended, systems may trigger recovery mode upon reboot, necessitating a recovery key or password for access.
There remains some ambiguity regarding the motivations of motherboard manufacturers for not distributing firmware updates. It’s plausible they encountered other significant issues. Therefore, AMD suggests that users experiencing TPM attestation failures or BitLocker issues reach out directly to their motherboard manufacturer for support. This is crucial for users, particularly gamers, who might find themselves unable to participate in competitive online environments.
To assist users further, AMD advises:
Contact your motherboard manufacturer’s customer service department to determine if a firmware update is available.
