AMD Announces Timeline for Instinct AI GPU Series: MI350 Launching by Mid-2025, MI400 Set for 2026

During its recent earnings call, AMD unveiled its ambitious plans for the AI sector, projecting that its Instinct AI GPU lineup could lead to “tens of billions”in revenue over the next few years.

AMD’s Ambitious AI Revenue Goals and Upcoming Developments

AMD, often dubbed as “Team Red, ”has faced challenges in making significant strides within the AI market. Unlike its main rival NVIDIA, which capitalized on early AI trends, AMD struggled to gain substantial market traction with its Instinct AI accelerator series. However, recent developments suggest a promising outlook for the company. In the latest earnings call, AMD provided insights into its current AI strategy, including details about the new MI325X and MI350 AI accelerators, and offered a sneak peek into the forthcoming MI400 series.

Focusing on the MI300 series, the MI300X has garnered notable success, with deployments reported by industry giants such as Microsoft, IBM, and Meta. Additionally, the accelerator is utilized in significant AI and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructures, including the El Capitan system. In a strategic pivot, AMD announced plans to commence volume production of the MI350 AI accelerator by mid-2025, a move accelerated due to Intel’s recent suspension of its Falcon Shores project and AMD’s upbeat outlook on market demands.

The customer feedback on MI350 series has been strong, driving deeper and broader customer engagements with both existing and net new hyperscale customers in preparation for at-scale MI350 deployments.

Based on early silicon progress and the strong customer interest in the MI350 series, we now plan to sample lead customers this quarter and are on track to accelerate production shipments to mid-year.

The MI350 promises to deliver impressive specifications, including a cutting-edge 3nm process node and the capacity for up to 288 GB of HBM3E memory, positioning it as a direct competitor to NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture. This next-generation accelerator will utilize AMD’s “CDNA 4″architecture, signaling significant improvements in the company’s AI technology.

Additionally, AMD’s forthcoming MI400 series is expected to leverage a new “CDNA-next”architecture, with projections for a 2026 launch. The MI400 lineup is anticipated to enhance performance and potentially integrate HBM4 technology. Overall, AMD is optimistic regarding its AI ventures, forecasting substantial growth in revenue in the years ahead.
