AMD Announces Early Shipping for Steam Machine in 2023

According to AMD, Valve’s highly anticipated new console, the Steam Machine, is set to commence shipping in early 2026. This development marks a significant milestone for both companies and the gaming community.

AMD Confirms Valve’s Steam Machine on Schedule; Next-Gen Xbox Aiming for 2027 Release

In the recent Q4 2025 Earnings Call, AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, provided insights into the upcoming Valve console. She confirmed that the Steam Machine is on track for an early 2026 launch, reiterating earlier reports about this exciting addition to the gaming landscape. While specific shipping dates have not been disclosed, Dr. Su’s statements underscore the imminent arrival of a console powered by AMD’s cutting-edge technology.

The Steam Machine will incorporate AMD’s custom Zen 4 chip and feature integrated graphics utilizing the advanced RDNA 3 architecture. Ideally positioned as a rival to both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the Steam Machine is anticipated to support 4K gaming. While specific technical specifications remain under wraps, Valve claims the new console will deliver performance on par with or surpassing that of at least 70% of existing gaming PCs.

This suggests that the compact design of the Steam Machine will capably handle most contemporary gaming titles. However, its pricing could be a decisive factor in its market positioning. Preliminary reports indicate a configuration featuring 16 GB of system RAM and an additional 8 GB dedicated to VRAM. While 8 GB might not suffice for the most resource-intensive games at higher resolutions, it could still enable a smooth gaming experience for a majority of titles.

…And development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027…

In conjunction with Valve’s announcement, AMD also confirmed that progress is steady for Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox console, which is projected for a launch in 2027. This forthcoming console will also feature an AMD semi-custom system on chip (SoC), anticipated to leverage the Zen 6 architecture paired with an innovative RDNA 5 integrated GPU.

The spotlight, however, remains on the Steam Machine due to its imminent release. Given the sharp increase in DRAM prices, it is expected that the console may come with a heftier price tag than initially anticipated, with estimates suggesting around $950 for the 512 GB model and up to $1070 for the 2 TB variant.
