The recent surge in sales of AMD AM5 and AM4 motherboards in Germany marks a significant milestone for the company, showcasing one of the largest increases in retail sales they have experienced to date. Interestingly, this uptick appears to have no notable impact on Intel’s motherboard sales, highlighting a clear trend in the market.

Staggering Sales Figures: AMD vs. Intel

In the past week alone, AMD reported impressive sales of approximately 5,000 motherboards through Mindfactory, while Intel managed to sell only 555 units across all its platforms combined. This staggering difference underscores AMD’s growing dominance not just in the motherboard market, but in the CPU sector as well.

A key factor behind AMD’s rapid sales growth is not solely its remarkable Zen architecture but also the noticeable lack of competition from Intel. This trend has contributed to a significant increase in AMD’s global CPU market share, ultimately influencing its motherboard sales positively.

Record Sales of AM4 and AM5 Motherboards

The sales of AMD’s AM4 and AM5 motherboards are showing unprecedented demand, particularly in Germany, where AMD’s sales have become almost tenfold compared to Intel’s. Recent statistics provided by Mindfactory (via @TechEpiphanyYT) reveal that AMD’s AM5 motherboards alone reached nearly 3,500 units.

The AM4 series is also experiencing a remarkable boost, surpassing 1,500 units sold in the last week. In stark contrast, Intel’s offerings show significantly lower performance, with the LGA 1700 platform for Alder, Raptor, and Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs achieving just 500 unit sales, and the LGA 1200 platform barely reaching 30 units.

Shockingly, the LGA 1851 platform has only managed to sell a mere 25 units over an entire week. Overall, Intel’s total motherboard sales do not even approach 1,000 units, a stark contrast to AMD’s performance. Currently, AMD commands around 90% of the total motherboard market share, generating revenue of €836,231, compared to Intel’s modest €93,299. The average selling price (ASP) for both companies remains the same at €168.

The Need for Competitive Balance

While these developments are undoubtedly advantageous for AMD and its customers, they raise concerns about the health of the overall PC market. Adequate competition is essential for driving innovation and ensuring fair pricing. As the technology landscape evolves, enthusiasts and industry observers alike hope that Intel will rise to the occasion with its next generation of products, creating a robust rivalry against AMD and NVIDIA in both CPU and discrete GPU markets.
