AMD continues to assert its dominance in the CPU market with its powerful Ryzen series. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D remains the standout leader, while its AM4 CPUs are flying off the shelves.
AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D Leads with Over 6000 Units Sold; Ryzen 5 5500 Second Most Popular
AMD has once again outperformed Intel in CPU sales, particularly following the introduction of the X3D processors. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is proving to be incredibly popular, achieving sales of more than 6000 units in March alone. Forecasts indicate that this figure may be slightly higher, potentially reaching around 7000 units by the end of the month.
In an unexpected twist, the six-core Ryzen 5 5500 has emerged as a favorite among PC enthusiasts and gamers alike. While the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is priced at an impressive $479, the Ryzen 5 5500 is accessible at under $90, which clearly enhances its appeal. Last month, it managed to sell over 3000 units, closely followed by the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is equally popular.

The sales leaderboard is again dominated by AMD Ryzen CPUs, with Intel’s presence being minimal. The Intel Core i5 12400F and Core i7 12700K are the only Intel processors that made it into the top 10 best-selling CPUs for March. The 12-core/24-thread Core i7 12700K, which belongs to the Alder Lake family, recorded sales of over 1000 units at an average price of $234, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious content creators and gamers.
On the other hand, the Core i5 12400F stands out as a powerful contender to AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X. With 6 cores and 12 threads, it’s priced $33 lower, providing comparable performance that appeals to budget PC builders. Both Alder Lake and Zen 3 architectures enjoy broad popularity due to their excellent price-to-performance ratios; however, challenges persist for the Core Ultra 200S series and the Ryzen 9000 non-X3D processors.
While sales for Ryzen 9000 CPUs are reasonable, they lag behind many models from the Ryzen 5000 and 7000 series across various regions. The Ryzen 5 7600X has emerged as the leading Zen 4 non-X3D processor, with the Ryzen 9 9900X being the only other Ryzen 9000 model breaking into the top 10 sales, followed closely by the Ryzen 9 9950X after the Core i9 14900K, which also saw shipments surpassing 1000 units.
The Core Ultra 200S series has not seen success, with the Core Ultra 7 265K being its top seller at just over 500 units. The overall sales results reveal that AMD achieved approximately 31, 600 units, reflecting a commanding 78.74% of the market, while Intel trailed significantly with 7, 500 units (21.26%). Consequently, AMD’s substantial sales led to an estimated revenue of $7.8M, compared to Intel’s $1.5M.
