Cancellation of Original Metroid Prime 4 Pre-Orders on Amazon
Fans eagerly anticipating Metroid Prime 4 may have recently checked their Amazon accounts only to find that their pre-orders for the original version have been unexpectedly canceled. Initially announced in 2017, Metroid Prime 4 was outlined by Nintendo with the original producer, Kensuke Tanabe, expected to lead the project. Unlike its predecessors, this installment was developed by Bandai Namco Studios across locations in Japan and Singapore.
However, in early 2019, Nintendo made a significant announcement: the development of Metroid Prime 4 had been scrapped, with Retro Studios stepping in to take over production. This shift occurred after reports indicated that Bandai Namco’s efforts were not aligning with Nintendo’s high standards. Fast forward to 2024, and excitement surged with the release of the first official trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The trailer portrays Samus Aran embarking on a compelling mission within a remote Galactic Federation Research Facility, showcasing thrilling first-person action. Although a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, Nintendo has communicated that fans can expect the game to launch in 2025.
While awaiting this new title, many players have discovered that their pre-orders of the previous version are being canceled on Amazon. According to NintendoLife, a Reddit user named mecha_flake shared their experience with a canceled pre-order on the r/Metroid subreddit, noting that the original order included a special discount. Other users have also reported similar cancellations.

On a brighter note, it’s important to clarify that these cancellations reportedly concern only the original version of Metroid Prime 4 announced in 2017. They do not suggest any setbacks for the reimagined Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Enthusiasts remain optimistic as this new chapter in Samus Aran’s story is set to launch in 2025, with rumors circulating that this title could potentially debut alongside the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
