Amazon Prime Video Announces Life is Strange TV Series
In an exciting development for fans of the critically acclaimed video game series, Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit a new TV adaptation of Life is Strange. According to a recent report by Variety, the project will be helmed by Charlie Covell, who will serve as both the executive producer and showrunner. Alongside Covell, a talented team of executive producers from Story Kitchen—including Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson—will contribute to the series. Notably, Square Enix is also involved in the production, partnering with Story Kitchen, Amazon, and LuckyChap, although the game’s original developers, Deck Nine and Dontnod Entertainment, reportedly are not part of the project.
Expanding the Amazon Adaptation Portfolio
This announcement adds another title to Amazon’s growing collection of video game adaptations, which already includes highly anticipated series based on franchises such as Tomb Raider, God of War, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Warhammer, Like a Dragon: Yakuza, and Mass Effect. The push to develop a Life is Strange adaptation has been in progress for several years, with Amazon finally securing the rights to tell this beloved story.

Commentary from Key Creators
Expressing their excitement, Johnson and Goldberg from Story Kitchen remarked, “We believe that Life is Strange transcends its origins as a game; it’s a cultural touchstone. After years of development, we are thrilled to bring this beloved narrative to Amazon MGM, alongside our exceptional partners at Square Enix and the talented Charlie Covell.”Covell herself echoed this sentiment, stating, “Adapting Life Is Strange is a profound honor. As a fan of the game, I look forward to introducing Max and Chloe’s journey to both long-time players and new viewers.”
Additionally, Jon Brooke and Lee Singleton, co-studio heads at Square Enix, expressed their enthusiasm by mentioning, “For years, we’ve been inundated with requests for a Life is Strange TV adaptation, and we couldn’t be happier to collaborate with Amazon MGM Studios, who we trust to faithfully represent our universe.”
The Future of Video Game Adaptations
With its rich narrative and immersive gameplay, Life is Strange is well-suited for a television adaptation amidst the current resurgence of video game-to-screen projects. While Amazon has demonstrated some success, particularly with its Fallout series, the landscape is increasingly crowded with similar adaptations. It raises the question of viewer fatigue—how long can audiences remain engaged with numerous adaptations, especially if the quality does not meet expectations?
The potential of Life is Strange to capture new audiences while honoring its fanbase sets high expectations for this upcoming series. Stay tuned for further updates as the project develops!
