With the return of Alucard in Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, fans of Netflix’s adaptation of the iconic video game series are treated to the much-anticipated evolution of this beloved character. The series has proven itself as a commendable adaptation, weaving its own narrative while incorporating elements from the original games. One of the most notable shifts from the earlier series is Alucard’s increased presence throughout the story, particularly following season 1. In the current season, he assumes a pivotal role once again.

A Time Leap: Over 300 Years Later

Although exact timelines are scarce in Netflix’s Castlevania, analyzing the lore allows us to establish a timeline. The first season loosely bases itself on Castlevania III, roughly situating the events around 1476. Given that Alucard was awakened by Trevor during season 1 in his 20s, we can estimate that he was born circa 1456. Castlevania: Nocturne takes place in 1792 amid the French Revolution, positioning Alucard at an age of approximately 336 years in this sequel series.

Escaping the Cycle of Tragedy

The connections between Castlevania: Nocturne and its predecessor are many, yet the narrative refrains from delving too deeply into Alucard’s events between the two series. At the conclusion of season 2, Juste Belmont inquires about Alucard’s absence, establishing a familial link. Being a probable descendant of Simon Belmont—who is in turn the grandson of Trevor and Sypha—Juste grew up with tales of “Uncle Alucard,”yet their interactions have been sparse.
Alucard shared his desire to detach himself from the perilous situations unfolding across Europe, particularly the demise of many Belmonts. His travels took him as far as India and China, although he refrained from elaborating on those experiences. Interestingly, prior to the events of Castlevania: Nocturne, he searched in Egypt for the mummy of Sekhmet but only discovered an empty coffin. Should a season 3 of Castlevania: Nocturne materialize, fans would undoubtedly enjoy uncovering more about Alucard’s relationship with the Belmont lineage and the journeys he undertook following his bond with Trevor and Sypha.
