Alperen Sengun Injury Update: Latest on Rockets star’s status ahead of important matchup vs. Warriors (April 4)
Alperen Sengun will not be able to play for the Houston Rockets in their crucial game against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. He has been sidelined since March 10 due to a right knee and ankle injury sustained in a game against the Sacramento Kings.
Despite getting injured, Sengun still had a breakout campaign, recording impressive stats of 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He proved to be the Rockets’ top player at times and played a crucial role in their improved record this season.
Some have noted similarities between his style of play and that of Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, a two-time MVP. Sengun, a point center, possesses the ability to create plays from various areas of the court. Additionally, he has strong rebounding skills and good hands, although there is room for improvement in his shooting.
Latest Update on Alperen Sengun’s Injury Status
Based on the most recent injury report from the Rockets, Alperen Sengun is still managing a sprained right ankle.
Despite being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right knee and a Grade 3 ankle sprain, he has not been ruled out of the season. However, according to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, the Rockets are not planning to rush his recovery.
“I was told there’s a very real chance.. .. They’re not going to bring him back if they’re not playing for something, but they’re putting themselves in a position where they have a chance to play for something,”McMahon said on ‘The Hoop Collective’ podcast. [H/T Sports Illustrated]
Despite his absence, Jalen Green has shouldered the team’s burden, displaying a level of maturity that was crucial for the team’s success. There is a growing sentiment among fans that Green should now be the main focus of the Rockets, but it’s possible that the team has an equally potent pairing, reminiscent of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.
The current status of Alperen Sengun
On Mar. 10, during a game against the Sacramento Kings, Alperen Sengun sustained an injury. While attempting to block Domantas Sabonis’ fastbreak layup, Sengun landed awkwardly on his right leg, causing it to bend as he fell to the ground.
Despite the initial fear and concern for the Turkish international’s injury, it turned out to be less severe than expected, much to the relief of the Rockets and their fans.
