Alone in the Dark – How to Escape the Sunken Temple and Find the Sacrificial Dagger

The latest installment of Alone in the Dark has arrived, yet the game retains its classic survival horror elements, featuring numerous puzzles, secrets, and enigmas to solve.

Please be aware that the following article contains minor SPOILERS for Alone in the Dark.

In Alone in the Dark, you will encounter one of the most intricate puzzle sequences as you search for the Sacrificial Dagger in an Egyptian Sunken Temple. This part of the game may remind you of a Zelda dungeon, with its numerous interconnected puzzles that may seem daunting. However, there’s no need to worry because we have a walkthrough for you. Just keep scrolling down…

Alone in the Dark

To access the Sunken Temple, you must first enter the Egyptian sequence. From there, proceed to the open area in the desert and locate the hole that leads down into the temple. Continue a short distance to reach an abandoned campground, where you can obtain a rope.

Return to the location of the hole in the ground and secure one end of the rope to a monolith. This will allow you to descend into the temple.

Upon entering, you will discover a spacious rectangular chamber with a prominent statue situated at the southern end. Various passages and walkways, spanning several levels, extend from the chamber and offer a view of its interior.

Activate the lever next to the sizable statue, and then (once again, orienting yourself so that the statue is located on the “south”side of the room) proceed through the door that opens on the east side. Pulling the lever will also trigger the activation of laser beams and attract pesky flying adversaries to the chamber. Use your pistol to eliminate the flying enemies before they become a nuisance.

Proceed through the eastern door and continue until you reach a small chamber containing a luminous blue chest. Retrieve the “Horizon” lens from the chest, then activate the lever located on the other side of the room. Insert the lens into the mount on the central statue. This will enable you to move the statue and redirect the blue laser using the lens. Aim the laser towards the blue eye symbol to unlock the door ahead.

Continue up the stairs until you come to a fork in the path. Take the left route and you will come across another statue that can redirect a laser. Direct the laser towards the north-west corner of the room, where you will see a hole in the lattice covering the walkway on the second floor and another blue eye symbol. Point the laser at this and a door on the west side of the main chamber will open. Helpful tip – you can utilize the lasers to eliminate the airborne enemies in the chamber and conserve ammunition.

Go north and continue on to the western walkway on the second floor, where you will find the door that was previously opened.

Upon entering the door, proceed down the stairs until you reach a fork in the path. Turn right and use your melee weapon to break through the wooden barrier, leading you to a small chamber with a chest. Activate the switch to redirect the laser towards the chest and retrieve the “Star”lens.

To continue, return to the second-floor walkway and make your way to the north side of the chamber. There, you will find another statue that requires a lens. Insert the Star lens and use it to direct the laser from the north to the south of the chamber. This will unlock a door next to the statue.

Descend to ground level and enter the recently opened door (be aware that a few enemies will emerge from it). As you move through the corridor, you will encounter a weak wooden door to your right. Use your melee weapon to break through it.

Upon pulling the switch in the small chamber, redirect the laser through the hole in the wall. Afterwards, proceed back to the passage and continue further down. Another small chamber awaits, where you must redirect the laser once more to unlock a chest. This chest contains the “Underworld”lens.

All the way back up to the second-floor western walkway is where you need to go now. You will find another statue here that requires a lens. Adjust the laser to aim towards the blue circle on the side of the statue’s crown.

Return to the pair of lenses located on the north and east sides of the chamber and readjust their positions to also aim at the crown of the statue.

While still on the second floor, make your way to the southern end of the chamber and climb the stairs. From there, you will be able to enter the statue’s crown where you will find another statue that redirects lasers. Direct the beam towards the illuminated blue point on the floor.

Uh oh! That triggered something! Leave the statue’s crown and make a right turn to crawl under some debris. You will need to return to ground level and some doors may be inaccessible now, but just follow the designated path. There will be several enemies in your path, but it’s best to avoid them and conserve your ammunition. Keep running if possible.

After successfully reaching the ground floor, interact with the open hidden compartment and retrieve some important items, such as the Sacrificial Dagger.

Congratulations, you have completed one of the more complex sections of the game. You are now approaching the final stages of the game!

Currently, Alone in the Dark can be found on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
