“Almost Fell Over”: Andy Richter Discusses His Challenges Wearing The Masked Singer Costume
The Masked Singer has surged in popularity, thanks to its innovative format that showcases celebrities performing while clad in extravagant costumes. Since its debut in 2019, this beloved series has aired two seasons each year, and it recently kicked off its twelfth season in September 2023.
This season features 15 celebrity contestants, with five already eliminated, including the latest participant unveiled—Andy Richter. The famed late-night talk show host, known for his role in FOX’s Andy Richter Controls the Universe, was revealed as the individual behind the character Dust Bunny in episode 4, which aired on October 16.
In a candid interview with Parade following his reveal, Andy recounted his experiences on The Masked Singer. He humorously shared a mishap involving a cameraman, where he nearly kicked the crew member due to his limited visibility in the costume. His remarks included:
“I just totally kicked the cameraman in the face, and almost fell over. I can’t see anything!”

The interviewer was particularly interested in how the costume affected Andy’s mobility. He recounted an incident that occurred during a low-angle camera shot being filmed when the crew positioned a camera close to the ground.
Andy explained that the camera was placed right in front of him, requiring him to walk in its direction. With significant blind spots beneath his eyeline, he nearly undermined the cameraman’s position and stumbled over due to the costume’s vision limitations. He humorously noted that someone might have received feedback for their planning in that situation.
“Whenever I moved, I was helped like an invalid, with two people on either side guiding me slowly,”Andy shared.

Reflecting on his elimination moment when he sang “Sweet Caroline,”Andy found the experience to be therapeutic. He noted how the audience’s engagement while singing along helped mitigate his insecurities as he considered himself a non-singer.
