Alleged Windows 11 24H2 RTM is almost upon us, final release schedule out too

Despite much speculation, a new report has indicated that Windows 12 will not be released in 2024. However, the report did mention that Windows 11 version 24H2 will be a significant update, unlike version 23H2.

Microsoft has recently announced the official confirmation of Windows 11 24H2, also known as the “2024 Update”for Windows 11.

If you are curious about the launch date of 24H2, you wouldn’t be far off if you predicted that the upcoming version will likely be generally available (G.A.) around September and October, similar to when Microsoft released its previous Windows 11 versions.

According to a recent report by Windows Central, it has been confirmed that Windows 11 24H2 will be released to manufacturing this month (April 2024). Additionally, the report mentions that the first AI PCs, which will be powered by Arm, are set to be revealed in June. This news is not unexpected, as Microsoft has recently released Windows Hardware Lab Kit (HLK) Insider Previews for compatibility testing of system requirements.

The report mentions an upcoming event next month that will showcase the new AI features of version 24H2. One of the features being developed is an “AI File Explorer,”although it is uncertain if this will be presented at the Build 2024 conference or as a separate event.

The complete schedule for the release of Windows 11 24H2 is provided below:

  • April 2024: Windows 11 version 24H2 reaches RTM milestone.

  • May 2024: Microsoft holds Windows event to unveil new AI experiences.

  • June 2024: The first Arm-PCs with version 24H2 preloaded start shipping.

  • July 2024: Microsoft finalizes feature set for Windows 11 version 24H2.

  • August 2024: Microsoft signs-off on day-one feature patch for version 24H2.

  • September 2024: Windows 11 version 24H2 + new AI features releases to everyone.

It is interesting to note that the December 2023 report, which initially disclosed the June release date for Windows 12 and the introduction of a range of AI PCs, may have been a mere coincidence. This suggests that there could have been some validity to the speculation that Microsoft was planning to unveil both Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 12 simultaneously.

It is also possible that these plans were never fully developed, as neither Intel nor Qualcomm, Microsoft’s partners, made it clear whether a new generation of Windows would be released.
