Alleged Sexual Assault Victim of Former NCT Member Moon Taeil Identified as Foreign Woman

On October 8, 2024, Ten Asia published allegations that ex-NCT member Moon Taeil was involved in the s*xual assault of a foreign woman. The allegations were initially lodged in June 2024, but gained wider attention on August 28, following his removal from NCT by SM Entertainment, which also paused his career activities.

It is claimed that Moon Taeil, alongside two associates, r*ped the victim, who was reported to be intoxicated and unconscious at the time. According to South Korean law, if multiple individuals conspire or use a weapon to commit quasi-r*pe against someone who is unable to resist, it falls under the category of special r*pe.

Article 4 of the Special Act on the Punishment of S*xual Crimes specifies that special r*pe incurs harsher penalties compared to quasi-r*pe, which pertains to cases where the victim is incapacitated due to intoxication and unable to defend themselves from the assault.

Moon Taeil Faces Potential 7-Year Prison Sentence for “Special R*pe”

As reported by Sports Chosun on October 7, 2024, Taeil was formally charged with exceptional quasi-r*pe on September 12 without detention. A KBS report confirms that the Seoul Bangbae Police Station registered him in June 2024 in connection with the s*xual assault accusations.

Earlier, in June 2024, the 30-year-old K-pop artist and two accomplices were implicated in the s*xual assault of a woman who had been drinking heavily. This information was furthermore shared on an anonymous college bulletin board, according to Sports Chosun.

Following these developments, SM Entertainment announced on August 28 that Taeil would no longer be part of the K-pop group NCT or its subunit NCT 127. Their official statement included:

“We have recently confirmed that Taeil was charged in a criminal case concerning a s*xual offense. Upon reviewing the facts, we recognized the seriousness of this situation and determined he could not continue participating in group activities. After discussions with Taeil, we reached a mutual agreement for his withdrawal from the group.”

However, as of October 7, it was reported that his case has been classified as one of special r*pe, unlike the earlier charge of quasi-r*pe. The case has now been forwarded to prosecution, and if found guilty, Taeil may face a prison sentence of at least seven years.

On October 8, Sports Chosun noted that SM Entertainment chose not to comment on the recent developments. The agency did, however, state with caution:

“It’s challenging to provide any comment as this matter is presently under investigation.”

In the wake of these allegations, several NCT members, including Johnny, Doyoung, WinWin, Mark, Haechan, and others, have unfollowed 30-year-old Taeil.
