In an interview with L.A. radio host DJ Hed, Ab-Soul expressed his need to channel the spirit of Doe Burger through this project. He explained, “I don’t even know how I’m really still doing this without him,” emphasizing the emotional weight behind the album.
“The idea came to fruition after [Doe Burger]’s transition and it’s just something that was very important for me to do,”he added, highlighting the personal connection and significance of the album’s title.

Ab-Soul encourages listeners to approach Soul Burger as if it were crafted by a fresh artist. Drawing parallels to the iconic characters Huey and Riley from the animated series The Boondocks, he believes the album reflects the essence of his relationship with Doe Burger. “This is my attempt at just really channeling him and making music that I feel like he would really like,” he remarked.

The final lead single, Crazier, features Dreamville artist JID and was released on October 29, 2024.
