“All the Album Budget Spent on Spotify and TikTok Autoplay” – Fans Divided as Billie Eilish Releases BIRDS OF A FEATHER Music Video
Billie Eilish has officially released the music video for her single Birds of a Feather from her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, on Friday, September 27, 2024. The stunning visuals for this ballad feature Eilish in an empty office space, where she is mysteriously pushed and pulled by an unseen force.
As news of this music video circulated online, fans quickly shared their mixed reactions. One disheartened viewer lamented:
“all the album budget went into TikTok and Spotify autoplay.”
Many users turned to social media to label it as the “worst music video,”criticizing it for failing to do justice to the song. Here are some comments from X:
“This is like the worst music video I’ve seen in years; at least give a good song proper justice,”one user commented.
“A fun romantic summer song and you sitting in an office spinning…”another quipped.
“Me in my office chair when no one is around…”@soorajks93 joked.
On the other hand, some fans defended the music video, arguing that critics misunderstood its true meaning.
“This song is NOT romantic; please look up the meaning! Why is nobody getting why the MV is the way it is?”an exasperated fan commented.
“This video is hard asf; why are people hating?”another questioned.
“The symbolism is so cool. Like something invisible (the aftereffects of a failed relationship or a current toxic one) are pulling her and dragging her through walls (causing harm), but she’s smiling (because she loves them and doesn’t think anything is wrong). I love this,”another user explained.
Billie Eilish to Kick Off her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour Starting September 29, 2024
The music video for Birds of a Feather was skillfully directed by Aidan Zamiri, known for his recent work on Charli XCX’s 360 and Guess videos, the latter of which also featured Eilish.
Throughout the music video, the Bad Guy artist is seen being pulled by this mysterious force, breaking through walls, levitating, and being dragged along the floor while maintaining a serene smile. The lyrics she sings include:
“If you go, I’m going too, uh/’Cause it was always you, alright/And if I’m turning blue, please don’t save me/Nothing left to lose without my baby/Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know/I said I’d never think I wasn’t better alone/Can’t change the weather, might not be forever/But if it’s forever, it’s even better.”
Billie Eilish is set to kick off her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour starting September 29, 2024, which will feature performances across North America through 2024, transitioning to Australia in February 2025, and concluding with shows in Europe by the end of July.
On Tuesday, Eilish announced that Google Maps will provide eco-friendly travel options for fans attending her concerts. A September 24 article by Yahoo! Tech highlighted that the app will assist with sustainable travel tips, including fuel-efficient routes, public transportation options, and distances for walking.
Additionally, Billie Eilish has curated a list of vegan and vegetarian restaurants in ten major U.S. cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago.
Earlier this year, the nine-time Grammy winner released an environmentally-friendly vinyl version of her latest album.
As of now, Billie Eilish has not publicly responded to the criticism.
