Michael Ball is Honored to Carry on Steve Wright’s Legacy

According to The Guardian, Michael Ball expressed both his nerves and enthusiasm for taking over Steve Wright’s role at BBC Radio 2. He credited the late presenter for making the show a must-listen radio program for audiences.

“Steve made Love Songs ‘appointment to listen’ radio. I’m beyond excited and more than a little nervous to be tasked with the chance to continue with his extraordinary legacy.”He continued.

Michael Ball emphasized his intention to carry on the strong connection that Steve Wright had built with his audience, stating that “this show will not solely belong to me, but to all of us.”The program, formerly known as Sunday Love Songs, will now be called Love Songs with Michael Ball.

On February 11, Steve Wright’s last episode, a special Valentine’s Day edition that was pre-recorded, aired as he bid farewell with the phrase, “I’ll be returning next Sunday with more love songs. Goodbye for now.”

On February 13, his family released a statement announcing his passing, which read:

“It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright. In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father Richard.”
