Alkimia Interactive Unveils Art Direction for Gothic Remake Ahead of THQ Nordic Showcase
As anticipation builds for the upcoming THQ Nordic Showcase scheduled for early next month, Alkimia Interactive has unveiled their latest ‘Making Of’ video. This installment takes viewers behind the scenes of the Gothic Remake, spotlighting the studio’s unique artistic vision.
In the introductory remarks of the video, Reinhard Pollice, game director and head of Alkimia Interactive, emphasizes their commitment to an innovative approach.“We also decided very early on, we are not making an HD version of the art style of the original, that’s not our goal, ”he states. Pollice, along with art director Daniel Candil, discusses the balancing act they faced during development: creating a visually grounded experience while carefully integrating the game’s whimsical and fantastical aspects.
The journey to the Gothic Remake began back in 2019, when an unexpected teaser demo first introduced the project to fans. It became official in 2020, confirming the remake was in active development. The team has dedicated years to refining the game, with updates recently revealed.
In May 2024, a timeline was projected that aimed for a March 2025 release. So far, players have experienced a revamped demo showcased during the February 2025 edition of Steam Next Fest. Alkimia Interactive actively sought player feedback during this event, pledging to implement significant adjustments based on community insights.
While a definitive launch date for the Gothic Remake is still pending, there is speculation that the THQ Nordic Showcase in August could finally provide clarity on its release schedule.
