Ali Wong Discusses Finding Love Again After Divorce in Netflix Special
In her latest Netflix special, Ali Wong: Single Lady, which was released on October 8, 2024, the comedian candidly shared insights into her blossoming romance with Bill Hader. In this comedic performance, Wong gives a humorous perspective on navigating the dating scene as a recently divorced woman in her 40s.
After parting ways with her spouse Justin Hakuta in 2022, Wong quickly found herself in a new relationship. Bill Hader reached out to her with a proposition, expressing that she was his ideal “dream girl.”His charming approach included a grand romantic gesture that Wong humorously recounted during her special:
“I did fall in love again. Some of you might know who the guy is. And it just so happens to be the man who sent me all of those flowers in Europe.”

The Origins of the Ali Wong and Bill Hader Romance
Hader took the initiative to woo the newly available Ali by sending her multiple “bouquets of flowers”while she was traveling in Europe. During her journey, she received these arrangements in Amsterdam as well as Cologne, and by the time she arrived in Copenhagen, she was thrilled to receive “six massive floral displays.”
The couple initially got together in the fall of 2022, but after a brief separation, they rekindled their romance and officially committed to each other in April 2023.
Bill Hader shares similar creative pursuits with Ali, being a talented comedian, actor, writer, director, and producer. He garnered fame through his roles on Saturday Night Live and HBO’s popular series, Barry, alongside a range of film appearances in titles such as Superbad, Tropic Thunder, Trainwreck, It Chapter Two, and Men In Black 3.

Her performance as Amy Lau in the dark comedy Beef earned her a Golden Globe for ‘Best Actress in a Limited Series’ in January 2024. She attended the awards ceremony with Hader and took the opportunity during her acceptance speech to express gratitude to her ex-husband Justin for his unwavering “love and support.”
Ali and Justin Hakuta, an entrepreneur, were together from 2014 until their separation in 2023. They share two daughters—Mari, born in November 2015, and Nikki, born in December 2017. After more than eight years of marriage, the couple announced their split in April 2022.
Wong officially filed for divorce in December 2023, citing irreconcilable differences, and the divorce was finalized in May 2024. Despite their separation, the former couple maintains a positive relationship; Ali stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March 2023 that they remain “best friends” after having “been through so much together.”
