New Patch Released for Alan Wake 2, Enhancing PS5 Pro Performance
Remedy Entertainment has unveiled the details of a fresh update for Alan Wake 2, specifically focusing on enhancing the gameplay experience for PlayStation 5 Pro users. This latest patch, version 1.27, introduces significant improvements aimed at addressing the needs of survival horror enthusiasts.
Background: Initial Challenges with PS5 Pro
Upon the PS5 Pro’s launch in November, Digital Foundry observed that the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), while effective in many titles, struggled with Alan Wake 2. This was primarily due to its lower internal rendering resolution. Following these remarks, Remedy announced it would take some time to refine the game for the PS5 Pro platform.
Patch Highlights for PS5 Pro Users
Approximately a month later, the new patch is here with various enhancements tailored for PS5 Pro players:
- Balanced Graphics Mode: A new mode has been introduced that requires displays capable of supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. This mode merges Quality settings, including ray tracing, with Performance mode’s resolution, aiming for a smoother 40fps experience.
- Performance Mode Adjustments: Visual settings have been fine-tuned to deliver a more stable framerate.
- Refined Raytracing: Quality and Balanced modes now feature adjusted ray tracing settings to reduce image noise.
- PSSR Toggle: Users can now choose to toggle PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on or off as per their preference.
Improvements Across All Platforms
This patch also extends its reach beyond just the PS5 Pro, offering minor updates for PC and Xbox Series S|X users, which include:
- Lake House Manuscript Fix: Corrected the issue where manuscript collectibles displayed the wrong page in Saga’s Mind Place.
- Welcome to the Lake House Audio: Resolved an audio issue with the “Welcome to the Lake House” video collectible.
- General Enhancements: Various minor fixes and optimizations for improved gameplay.
Launch Reception and Sales Insights
Since its release on October 27, 2023, Alan Wake 2 has garnered impressive reviews and strong support from its fanbase. However, its sales figures tell a different story. Despite launching two planned story DLCs, titled Night Springs and The Lake House, the game has reportedly sold just 1.8 million units, yet to cover its substantial development and marketing expenditures.
