This collaboration has led to the launch of an innovative AirTag Luggage Tracking application, which allows passengers to efficiently track their luggage equipped with an Apple AirTag.

Previously, when luggage went missing, passengers could provide only a vague location to airline staff, making the recovery process cumbersome. However, with this cutting-edge AirTag feature, travelers can now directly share their luggage’s precise location, facilitating a smoother communication process with service personnel.

Widespread Airline Adoption

This feature isn’t unique to China Airlines; it has already been adopted by over 15 major airlines worldwide. Leading carriers such as Aer Lingus, Delta Air Lines, and British Airways have embraced this technology as part of their customer service strategies to help quickly locate misplaced baggage. As noted in a recent announcement from Apple:

more than 15 airlines serving millions of people globally — including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling — will begin accepting Find My item locations as part of their customer service process for locating mishandled or delayed bags. More airlines will be added over time.

Features Accessible to Passengers

The rollout of this system is currently underway, and gradual support from airlines is being observed. According to a report by Liberty Times, China Airlines is now joining the ranks of airlines offering this feature. Passengers will be able to create a “share item location”link directly from their iPhones, which they can send to China Airlines via the airline’s website or at service counters. This capability enables the airline staff to pinpoint the location of baggage more accurately and efficiently.

Privacy Features and Expiration of Shared Links

Once the lost bag is located, the location sharing will automatically cease to ensure customer privacy. Additionally, passengers maintain the control to terminate sharing at their convenience. For those prone to forgetfulness, the shared link will be programmed to expire after seven days of inactivity.

This initiative marks another enhancement in a suite of digital offerings from China Airlines, which already includes services like the “China Airlines App, ”automated check-in features, and the “Xiaohua Companion”location-finding function.
