On Thursday, October 3, Ahn Yu-seong, a chef from Culinary Class Wars, shared several poignant photos via his social media account after his recent elimination from the survival cooking competition during the restaurant mission. The eighth, ninth, and tenth episodes of Culinary Class Wars were released on October 1.
In these episodes, the fifteen contestants competed fiercely in the restaurant mission for a chance to secure one of the top eight spots. Unfortunately, Ahn Yu-seong, representing the White Spoon, was unable to clinch a top position, resulting in his elimination from the show.
In an emotional post, Ahn Yu-seong reflected on his feelings following the elimination. His heartfelt caption read:
“During the filming of ‘Culinary Class Wars’, I went two full days without sleep. The hardest part was coming out alone at dawn, looking at my mom’s picture and trying to keep my mental state from breaking down.”
The photos shared included behind-the-scenes moments from the reality show as well as cherished childhood memories with his mother.
Ahn Yu-seong’s Elimination in the Culinary Class Wars Restaurant Mission
Episodes 8 through 10, which debuted on October 1, showcased a challenging team restaurant mission where the top eight candidates were determined. Ultimately, the contestants Choi Hyun-seok, Ho-jun Jang, Cooking Stone, Imokase No. 1, Triple Star, Jeong Ji-seon, Napoli Mafia, and Edward Lee secured the top positions.
The fifteen contestants were initially divided into three teams of five members each. These teams secretly voted to eliminate one member from their groups, leading to Ahn Yu-seong’s dismissal from Chef Choi Hyun-seok’s team.
The three eliminated contestants were then combined to form a fourth team, which also participated in the restaurant mission. This new team included Ahn Yu-seong, Torn Apart, and Iron Bag Chef. Unlike the other teams of four, the fourth team only had three members.
Despite being smaller, the fourth team faced significant challenges, particularly due to a six-hour time delay.
Throughout the restaurant mission, the team struggled to efficiently serve their dishes. Ultimately, their team faced no advantages, which led to the lowest sales and Ahn Yu-seong’s elimination.
On October 2, the Korean media outlet Nate News reported insights from a Producing Director regarding the elimination in Culinary Class Wars during the restaurant challenge. The PD commented:
“Even so, ‘Culinary Class Wars’ is a groundbreaking program. Without considerable expertise, it would be impossible to film a large-scale survival cooking show with 100 chefs, using fire and knives.”
He further added:
“It’s disappointing that contestants like ‘Cafeteria Guy’ and ‘Master of School Meals’ were eliminated, but it’s impossible to capture everyone’s story in a survival show.”
Culinary Class Wars Season 1 is the inaugural Korean food reality show broadcast on Netflix, first airing on September 17. The season finale episodes are scheduled to air on October 8, bringing the total number of episodes to twelve.
