Microsoft’s recent remaster, Age of Mythology: Retold, has launched successfully, garnering accolades from both critics and gamers for its revitalization of the iconic real-time strategy game. With the initial launch phase complete, the developer is now focused on the future of this title. A key part of this initiative is the newly announced Public Update Preview program, with the first session already underway.
For those unfamiliar, the Public Update Preview allows players of the Age franchise to preview upcoming content before it is released to the broader audience. This initiative has been in place for nearly every Definitive Edition release of the Age of Empires series, including the latest installment, Age of Empires IV. Now, it’s the turn of Age of Mythology: Retold.
The inaugural Public Update Preview for Retold is active from Friday, September 27 to Monday, September 30. This update introduces a plethora of bug fixes and enhancements, including the highly requested 4v4 Ranked and Quick Play matchmaking features.
Players interested in joining the Age of Mythology: Retold Public Update Preview program can find more details on the announcement page here. To participate, users must log into Steam and possess a copy of the game. Once they’ve opted into the program, a new BETA branch will become available in their Steam settings, allowing them to explore upcoming content.
Additionally, Age of Mythology: Retold made headlines with a significant reveal at the Xbox Tokyo Game Show Broadcast, where Microsoft announced the game’s first expansion, titled Immortal Pillars. Although a release date has yet to be confirmed, the expansion is expected to introduce a new pantheon of gods, exciting myth units, fresh god powers, and more, all as part of a new campaign.
