Iconic singer Frankie Valli has raised alarms among his devoted fans after video footage from his recent performance suggested he was disoriented and resorted to lip-syncing during his songs.
The videos captured from the concert on September 27, held at New Brunswick’s State Theatre at 8:00 PM, indicated that the 90-year-old artist heavily relied on backup vocalists throughout his performance. Notably, still images showcased Valli mouthing the lyrics to his beloved 1978 hit, “Grease.”
In the wake of this footage gaining traction on X (formerly Twitter), many netizens voiced their concerns regarding Valli’s health. They took to the platform to speculate about the reasons behind his lip-syncing.
“Times are horrible when you have to come back from the dead in order to pay for bills when you’re dead!”one user remarked.
“I wonder if he has run short of $$$. I hope that’s not the situation,”wrote another.
“He’s feverishly prepping to sing at Joe Biden’s second inauguration. They just haven’t had the heart to give him the bad news,”another user joked.
Criticism was also directed at the event’s organizers, as one commenter pointed out:
“The real singers could not have sold tickets at a higher price unless he was there. Frankie looked barely able to lift the [mic]. It’s pathetic to use him just for profit.”
Some netizens attempted to provide insight into his reasons for performing at such an advanced age, suggesting that it could bring him joy. Others criticized the industry for lacking compassion towards older artists.
“Maybe it made him feel good,”commented another user.
“Because our elders should not be placed in homes and forgotten. He is clearly still performing and drawing crowds. Have you ever visited a nursing home? It can break your heart,”wrote another X user.
“Because their handlers are merciless, showing no regard for those under their care,”said another.

This incident is not the first occasion when Valli’s health has become a topic of concern. A widely circulated video from his August 3 concert at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California, depicted the artist moving slowly and hardly singing.

“Frankie is doing just fine and is thrilled to still be performing. The audiences are filling the venues and enjoying some great music. Frankie loves what he does at 90… and we should all be so fortunate.”
Moreover, Valli addressed his love for performing during a conversation with WGN radio host Lisa Dent on September 19, where he mentioned how long he plans to continue performing:
“It may be another year or two at the very most. But I’m genuinely enjoying it. I love the performance aspect; the travel is the part I don’t enjoy as much.”
When Dent inquired about the criticism and the memes circulating about him in August, Frankie Valli replied,
“Well, I sometimes don’t understand critics. While many are fair, some seem intent on finding flaws in everything anyone does.”
As of now, neither Frankie Valli nor his team has publicly commented on the recent concerns following his performance.
