The new series Agatha All Along marks the 11th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, crafted by Jac Schaeffer. It made its debut on Disney Plus on September 18, 2024. As a spin-off from WandaVision, the spotlight is on Agatha Harkness, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn. The narrative unfolds three years after Wanda liberated Westview, New Jersey, from her spell.
Stripped of her magical abilities, Agatha is ensnared in the persona of Detective Agnes O’Connor. She embarks on an investigation into a murder involving a victim whose hands and feet bear the taint of dark magic, hinting at the possible demise of the Scarlet Witch. In the early episodes of Agatha All Along, viewers meet a mysterious Gothic teenager who aids in liberating Agatha from Wanda’s hex.
As they unite, they form a coven of witches and set off on a quest along The Witches’ Road. A sigil applied to the Teen initially hinders him from revealing his true identity to Agatha or the other witches. However, by the end of episode 5, titled Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power, Agatha drains Alice’s powers, which leads to her demise and triggers the Teen’s furious outburst. After Agatha likens him to his mother, the Teen unleashes his true powers, exposing his genuine identity.
The Teen then takes control of Lilia and Jen, forcing them to bring Agatha to a perilous fate, which results in their deaths. He adorns a blue magical headpiece reminiscent of the Scarlet Witch’s, confirming that the Teen is, in fact, Billy Maximoff—the reincarnation of Wanda’s son, who later becomes Wiccan in the comic series.
Was Agatha Aware of the Teen’s Identity in Agatha All Along?
Teen is introduced during the premiere episode of Agatha All Along while attempting to sneak into Agnes’s home. Agatha follows him, but during a subsequent incident, he is struck by a car and taken into custody. While being interrogated, the Teen manages to lift the hex on Agatha, restoring her true self.
As Teen attempts to reveal his identity, a sigil prevents him from doing so, igniting Agatha’s curiosity about his past. By the end of episode 4, he references Agatha’s son, likely Nicholas Scratch, though she remains silent. Yet, in a private exchange with Agatha, Rio clearly states that Teen is not her son.
To further probe, Agatha claims she shares similarities with his mother, using it as a test to verify his truthfulness, since she senses a resemblance. Both figures wield formidable dark magic, yet strive for redemption. Wanda initially cast the sigil over Billy to shield him from detection by other witches and sorcerers.
Background of Billy Maximoff in WandaVision
In WandaVision, following the tragic loss of Vision at the hands of Thanos, Wanda succumbs to her grief by crafting a fabricated reality, casting a spell over the entire town of Westview, New Jersey. In this illusion, she recreates her life as depicted in beloved 1960s and 70s sitcoms, allowing Vision to live on. Through her mystical abilities, she manifests two children, Tommy and Billy.
Agatha All Along reveals glimpses of Billy Maximoff, as the Teen is identified as coming from the nearby town of Eastview, with hints about his sexual orientation. An Easter egg suggests he experienced significant events at the age of 13.
When he introduces himself to Agatha, the Teen is 16 years old. Given the timeline of Agatha All Along, which takes place three years after WandaVision, it becomes clear that the Teen, also known as Billy Maximoff, is indeed the son of Wanda Maximoff.
