ADOR Responds to NewJeans’ Temporary Group Name Initiative
ADOR, the agency representing NewJeans, has publicly addressed the recent initiative by the group members to solicit temporary group name suggestions from their fans. This move sparked considerable attention on social media, particularly through NewJeans’ Instagram account, where fans were invited to contribute their ideas.
Background on the Contractual Dispute
In a statement shared with OSEN, ADOR emphasized its perspective on NewJeans’ decision to hold a naming contest. The group, which consists of members Minji, Danielle, Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein, has been at the center of a controversial legal situation since they announced the termination of their contracts with ADOR in November 2024 during a press conference. Despite this, ADOR contends that the contractual obligations of the group remain intact.
Legal Actions and Agency Concerns
Following the group’s announcement, ADOR took several legal steps, including an injunction aimed at prohibiting NewJeans from signing independent advertising contracts. The agency’s concerns intensified when they deemed the act of soliciting new group names a “serious breach”of their agreement.
ADOR’s Official Statement
In its official announcement, ADOR expressed disappointment regarding the members’ attempts to engage independently in entertainment activities. They stated, “It is unfortunate that the members are attempting to engage in entertainment activities in independent ways, ” further emphasizing that the contest for new names initiated prior to a legal decision could be interpreted as a breach of contract.
Members’ Response and Allegations
In a counterstatement released through their legal representative, Sejong Law Firm, the members of NewJeans made it clear that they have no plans to return to either HYBE or ADOR. They went on to allege instances of harassment, claiming that the agency had attempted to undermine them by secretly meeting with some of their parents in an effort to cause discord.
NewJeans expressed their concerns, stating, “They have even tried to persuade or cause discord by secretly meeting some of our parents, ” which highlights the tension surrounding the group and their agency.
