AdGuard: uBlock Origin Alternative Fixes BSOD Issues on Windows and Introduces Universal Dark Mode

This week, Brave made a significant commitment regarding uBlock Origin, assuring users that it would maintain support for the extension in light of a recent announcement on social media that Google Chrome had “permanently disabled”it, citing it as unsupported.

In contrast, AdGuard has already integrated the Manifest V3 (MV3) extension since August 2022. With the latest update, version 7.19 of AdGuard for Windows, released today, users can now alter any webpage and implement a dark theme using Userstyles.

AdGuard provided details on how this feature works:

It functions by appending CSS styles to the website’s current styles.

To apply a userstyle, navigate to Settings → Extensions → Add → Import from file or URL. If you’re feeling creative, select Add → Create userstyle.

The update also introduces several enhancements and fixes, including a critical fix for a blue screen of death (BSOD) triggered by the Windows NETIO SYS driver, essential for AdGuard’s network traffic filtering. AdGuard has included updated drivers for both the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) and Transport Driver Interface (TDI) in this version.
