- This invite-only initiative welcomes “players of all types” to participate.
- Activities will include surveys, online discussion forums, and focus group sessions.
Activision, the publisher behind the Call of Duty series, has launched an innovative program known as Recon Squad. This initiative aims to collect community feedback during the ongoing seasons of Black Ops 6 and Warzone, with the goal of enhancing the overall gaming experience. Despite the strong initial reception of Black Ops 6, both titles have reportedly encountered significant challenges, with escalating concerns surrounding bugs, performance issues, and rampant cheating impacting player engagement.
Players have voiced their frustrations with numerous glitches in Treyarch Studios’ latest installment. While issues are present in Black Ops 6, many users feel that Warzone faces even graver challenges. Activision has taken note of player feedback; earlier this year, the studio announced that Warzone‘s Season 2 would experience a reduction in content to prioritize enhancements in gameplay mechanics, user experience improvements, and crucial bug fixes. Although this decision disappointed some fans, the commitment to bolster gameplay quality was welcomed by the community. To address ongoing issues, Activision is intensifying its dialogue with gamers through the newly established Recon Squad program.
Launch of the Recon Squad Program
During the roll-out of Call of Duty’s Season 2 Reloaded, Activision presented the Recon Squad initiative. This program continues Activision’s effort to foster a “social and fun” gaming environment. The company emphasizes the importance of player perspectives, which has propelled its decision to open a new communication channel through Recon Squad. While participation is by invitation only, it aims to include a diverse group of players, not solely those with extensive gameplay hours.
Recon Squad will serve as an ongoing research community throughout the seasons of both Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Players will be invited to contribute feedback via surveys, online discussion platforms, and focus groups, thereby influencing the development of future updates.

Players’ insights will hold significant weight in shaping the future of the Call of Duty franchise. Moreover, participants in the Recon Squad will have the opportunity to earn points, which can be redeemed for various in-game items in either Warzone or Black Ops 6. The exact nature of these items remains vague but may include appealing options like Double XP tokens or COD Points, alongside potentially controversial operator skins. Interested players will be contacted randomly through their Activision ID-associated email to join the program.
The establishment of Recon Squad arrives shortly after a notable drop in player numbers on Steam, indicating a concerning trend within the Call of Duty community. Reports suggest nearly a 50% decrease in active players on Steam since Black Ops 6‘s release, emphasizing the urgency for Activision to attentively address and implement the desired changes as communicated by their player base. With persistent issues like cheating affecting both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, players are eager to lend their voices to drive improvements.
