Microsoft is broadening the availability of its Copilot AI assistant within the OneNote application for both Mac computers and iPads. The organization announced today that users subscribed to Microsoft 365 Insider, particularly from commercial sectors, can now experience this new functionality.
In a blog post on the Microsoft 365 Insider platform, the company shared:
By incorporating Copilot into OneNote for iPad and Mac, users can accomplish their tasks more swiftly and effectively. Copilot is integrated within OneNote and other frequently used Microsoft 365 applications, aiding you in harnessing AI’s potential to boost productivity, enhance creativity, and elevate your skills.
Insider participants holding a Microsoft 365 commercial account can log in and launch a OneNote notebook on their Mac or iPad. A new Copilot button should appear when they access the Home tab in OneNote.
Some functionalities that can be utilized in OneNote with Copilot include summarizing meeting notes, creating a list of discussion points for an upcoming meeting, or requesting Copilot to generate names for a new startup venture.
Microsoft has also highlighted a few limitations that OneNote users on Mac and iPad should be aware of regarding the new Copilot feature:
- The voice input option for Copilot in OneNote is not presently available on the iPad (a solution is on the way).
- At this time, Copilot only understands the context of sections and pages; understanding of the entire notebook context is forthcoming.
Users participating in the Microsoft 365 Insider Beta with commercial accounts can access this OneNote update for Mac, requiring Version 16.90 (Build 24101387) or newer, and for iPad, Version 16.90 (Build 24100817) or later. However, individual Microsoft Copilot Pro users currently cannot access this feature, although Microsoft indicates that it will be made available to them soon. The timeline for broader availability remains unspecified.
