Abraham Diaw is pursuing $16 million in damages from Chris Brown, following claims that the singer has neglected to respond to an alleged assault lawsuit. The legal action was initiated in October 2023, rooted in a reported incident from February 2023 at a nightclub in London. Diaw asserts that Brown failed to acknowledge the lawsuit after being served twice at his residence in Los Angeles, in both February and April of this year.
In his legal filings, Diaw accuses Brown of striking him in the face with a bottle of alcohol while at the nightclub. Court documents reveal that Diaw alleges he sustained multiple injuries, including periods of unconsciousness resulting from the purported attack. According to a report from The Blast on October 7, Diaw is now requesting $16 million in a default judgment.
Allegations Against Chris Brown Involve Tequila Bottle Assault
Diaw’s lawsuit, lodged in October of the previous year, states that Chris Brown assaulted him using a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila at the TAPE nightclub in London. He claims that the renowned musician dealt “crushing blows”to his head, rendering him unconscious, and proceeded to stomp on him for approximately thirty seconds. The lawsuit claims the then-43-year-old suffered serious injuries necessitating hospitalization.
The injuries Diaw describes include numerous lacerations to his head and torn ligaments in his leg as a result of the alleged attack. He further claims to have incurred “permanent”damage and experiences “severe emotional distress.”With the lawsuit, Diaw demanded a jury trial and stated that the incident was recorded on the venue’s surveillance footage.
In a subsequent interview with The Sun, conducted two months post-incident, Diaw, who is also a music producer, recounted that Brown struck him on the head “two or three”times and mentioned the need for crutches following the encounter. He stated:
“My knee collapsed as well. He’s making out it was one of his entourage but it was him.”
According to a report from Daily Mail in October 2023, Diaw had known Chris Brown for several years prior to the alleged assault. He noted in his conversation with The Sun that he had been in contact with the police, who were optimistic about a swift resolution. A friend of Diaw’s further recounted to the publication:
“He was badly beaten up. He’s on crutches and can’t walk and faces months of physiotherapy.”
As previously mentioned, one year following the filing of his lawsuit, Abraham Diaw continues to demand $16 million in damages from Chris Brown, citing the singer’s repeated disregard for legal proceedings. Diaw’s motion, cited by The Blast, highlights:
“Despite this proper service, [Chris] has failed to file any response to the complaint or the first amended complaint, exceeding the statutory time limit for doing so. As of October 1, 2024, it has been 141 days since the defendant was served with the first amended complaint.”
Diaw is advocating for a default judgment of $16 million as compensation for the damages he claims to have incurred due to Chris Brown’s failure to engage with the legal process.
Furthermore, Live Nation has also been named as a defendant in the lawsuit, although they have denied any involvement in the alleged incident. As of now, Brown has not publicly addressed the allegations.
In addition to this lawsuit, Chris Brown is grappling with several legal issues. Notably, he faces a claim for $90 million from two former housekeepers who allege they were attacked by his dog, Hades, on December 12, 2020.
