A True Gentleman on Netflix: Ending Explained and Saygin’s Final Career Choice

A True Gentleman, directed by Onur Bilgetay, premiered on Netflix on September 26, 2024. The film features Turkish stars, including Ebru Sahin as Nehir and Çagatay Ulusoy as Saygin. The storyline focuses on Saygin, a male escort, who comes to understand his true desires when he falls in love.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the official synopsis reads:

“A charming male escort finds his life turned upside down when he starts to fall in love, challenging him to discover what he truly wants and needs.“

In the film, Saygin engages in sex work while remaining loyal to his client, Serap. However, after the tragic loss of his close friend, Kado, Saygin decides to quit his work as a sex worker, pursue a career as a chef, and eventually opens his own restaurant.

Serap Offers a Deal to Saygin in A True Gentleman

Showcasing his charm and charisma, Saygin enjoys a comfortable life due to his lucrative role as a transient lover. A few minutes into A True Gentleman, his client Serap presents him with a once-in-a-lifetime offer: Saygin would be exclusively sexually involved with Serap in exchange for her taking care of all his needs. Reluctantly, Saygin accepts, receiving a luxury car and a bungalow.

However, his circumstances shift dramatically when he encounters Nehir at a party. Despite his efforts to ignore her, he finds it increasingly difficult to resist her allure. After a second meeting at another gathering with Kado, Nehir consumes too much alcohol that night.

Nehir and Saygin Grow Closer

Later in A True Gentleman, after Nehir gets sick from drinking too much, she ends up at Saygin’s apartment, sleeping on his sofa. The next morning, Kado informs Saygin that Nehir is waiting for him at the bus stop. Saygin rushes to invite Nehir to watch a movie, after which he drives her home.

Saygin’s protective nature is revealed when he saves Nehir from a building fire one night, showing just how much he cares for her. They share an intimate moment; however, Saygin still refrains from disclosing his true identity and profession to Nehir.

The situation takes a turn when Nehir, after a day at college, uncovers Saygin with Serap in his bed, which breeds suspicion in her. It becomes painfully clear to Nehir that Saygin is a male escort and that Serap is the source of his affluence.

Shortly after this revelation, Saygin’s life shatters. He suffers the loss of Kado—his brother and confidant—the one person he thought would always support him. An overdose in Saygin’s home tragically claims Kado’s life. Following this, Nehir also parts ways with Saygin after discovering his profession.

After Kado’s funeral, Saygin embarks on a fresh start, leaving behind his life as a male escort.

Saygin and Nehir Reunite After Years

By the end of A True Gentleman, Saygin has established his own restaurant, taking on the role of head chef. One night, right before closing, he unexpectedly comes across Nehir once more. He surprises her with her favorite strawberry cake, and she reciprocates with a ticket to her upcoming performance.

It remains unclear whether Nehir and Saygin will reunite romantically in the film. However, his presence at the concert could reignite past feelings, paving the way for a potential reunion if he chooses to attend Nehir’s performance.
