The New Republic Era: A Thrilling New Chapter for “Star Wars”Characters
After the Empire’s Fall: Luke, Leia, and Han’s New Challenges

Marvel is concluding its extensive Battle of Jakku series, which showcases the final battle of the Galactic Civil War. The upcoming Star Wars series, set to debut in May, will follow the saga’s key figures as they work to reconstruct the galaxy after years of Imperial rule. Author Alex Segura emphasized the importance of this transformative period in Star Wars lore, stating:
“Now that we’ve put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking. These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can’t wait.”
Segura’s excitement aligns perfectly with fan anticipation to explore this significant chapter in Star Wars history.
While some aspects of the post-Return of the Jedi era have been hinted at, a substantial portion of the timeline—spanning nearly thirty years between this film and The Force Awakens—has largely remained unexplored within the franchise’s current narrative framework. The earlier “Legends”continuity delved deeply into this period, portraying the fall of the Empire and the establishment of the New Republic. However, the Disney continuity has refrained from traversing this timeline until now.
Limited Insights on Luke, Leia, & Han in the New Republic Era — But Change is Coming

Following Return of the Jedi, fans are aware that Luke Skywalker attempted to revive the Jedi Order by establishing a school for Force-sensitive children. Unfortunately, this initiative ended tragically when his nephew, Ben Solo, succumbed to the Dark Side and destroyed the school along with its students. On the other hand, Princess Leia’s path included a brief foray into Jedi training, a plot thread the Sequel Trilogy introduced, although it remains somewhat undeveloped.
Meanwhile, the details surrounding Han Solo’s journey during the New Republic era are scant. The Force Awakens alludes to a divergence between Han and Leia, stemming from their son’s fall to darkness. Nevertheless, the adventures of Han and Chewbacca aboard the Millennium Falcon continue, but specific contributions to the New Republic remain elusive. The new Star Wars series by Alex Segura aims to shed light on Han’s role during this transformative period.
